I know what a theory test is you just answer 40 questions from the cd or the book.

How do i apply for a theory test?
Also, what do i do after the theory test?
And what is a learner permit?

So i am really asking what are the steps to getting your full driving licence.

    :confused::eek:

Correct, although its not just answer you need to answer 35 out of 40 correctly. What I mean is dont assume all the questions are simple, you will need to do some study with the book or CD.

You can apply online via this website.

After you complete the theory test you will receive a certificate, you then apply for a Learner Permit from your local tax office. You also need an eyesight report which can be obtained from any opticians, 2 passport photos and the application fee (€15 I believe).

A Learner Permit is a form of driving licence which allows someone to learn to drive. It has certain conditions associated with it, the main one being that when driving you must be accompanied at all times by a fully licenced driver who has held a full licence for at least 2 years. There are other conditions such as not being allowed drive on Motorways, you must also display 'L-Plates' on both the front and rear of the car etc.

Once you have a Learner Permit you must wait at least 6 months from until you take a driving test. You may apply before the 6 months in order to take account of the waiting list (typically 8-12 weeks depending on the test center).

So, the steps in summary are :

    1. Study for the Theory Test
    2. Apply for it online and pass it!
    3. Get an eyesight report
    4. Complete the Learner Permit application and apply to MTO
    5. Start doing some driving lessons!

When starting to learn to drive it is highly recommended to take professional lessons and you must use an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) - a full list is available on this website - it is currently against the law for someone who is not an ADI to give lessons and charge for them.

So, basically the law still allows parents etc to teach their kids how to drive but dont use an 'instructor' who is not on the ADI list.

    Good luck with the driving.

We are talking about the Learner Driver Theory Test, correct ??

To the best of my knowledge it hasnt changed from 40 questions, the question bank has been increased in the 4th edition but the test is still 40 questions.

Can you provide a reference to the 70 from 80 info ?

It's still 40 questions with a 35 correct pass rate, although some of the new questions have got multiple answers so you need to answer several parts of a single question but other than that its still more or less the same as the older CD. Anyone who practices on the new CD will have no problem passing the theory test for any class of license as it's all just common sense really ;)

I have my test tomorrow and I have done ~20 hours of lessons but I am doing my test in my instructors car but I think you are recommend to do about 100 hours of driving before you sit your test. I am also insured on my sisters car and anytime im out the person accompanying me never really picks on my bad habits like make sure im not costing while going around a corner kinda stuff.

My instructor is really honest and points out the mistakes when I make them and tells me how to correct them wouldn't consider him strict.

I originally learned how to drive when I was 17 but the person showing me how to drive hadnt even sat a test  but then 4 months ago I decided I wanted to get my licence got my second learners permit and after about 2 weeks I was driving confidently but its only in the last month I have gotten most stuff down.
