Pedometres? do they work?

I've just joined the Alsaa club to finish my marathon training as I've been training solely on roads, and hilly roads at that, and my back has been suffering.
I had all my distances measured in the car before I ran.
Now I will be training on a track, and a few fields (the cross country track), not exactly the sort of place I can drive around to measure distances! :pac:
So it comes to pedometres, do these acurately measure the distance you have ran? Even on the track?

My experience has been no they don't but this may depend on how accurate you need then to be. From what I remember they were difficult to calibrate but you have a track in ALSAA and this might help with accuracy.

A better solution could be to try http://www.mapmyrun.com/ which should be better. You may also get some saved runs there which may suit you.

If money is no object then go for the Garmins (405, 305 etc). There are numerous posts here on these if you search for them.

Best of luck in the marathon.
