I'll be receiving a piece of virtual cycling trainer software soon that has the following requirements:

    Recommended system resources
Processor: minimum Pentium IV (3.0 Ghz)
Memory: 1024 MB for XP, 2056 MB for Vista
    Hard disc space: 850 MB
Graphics card: DirectX9 compatible 3D card with 256 MB of memory (not shared) GeForce FX or equivalent
    Sound card: DirectSound compatible
Various: 1 free USB port; DVD player (for use of Real Life Video & ErgoVideo only)
OS: Windows XP SP2 or Vista SP1 (32 bit)

I want to run it on an old PC that is currently out of order due to a harddrive issue. I hope to swap out the HDD with a spare and put Windows 7 on it. Failing that, I'll reinstall XP on it. Here are the specs of the old PC - will it be up to the job of supporting the program with the above specs?

    HDD: Samsung SpinPoint P120S 200GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM NCQ
    Mobo:-Abit AN8, nForce4, Socket-939, ATX SATA, GbLAN, Firewire, DDR, Sound, PCI-Ex16
    CPU:AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz Socket 939, 512KB, BOXED w/fan
    Monitor:-BenQ 17" LCD T705 TCO99 Monitor, Black/Silver
    Graphics card:-Sapphire Radeon X700PRO 128MB GDDR3 PCI-Express,Tv-Out, DVI-I, Lite-Retail
    RAM:-TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Dual Pack Kit w/two matched PC3200 DDR DIMMs

Thanks Overheal. I reckoned the PC would be able to run Windows 7 alright but it's the graphics requirements for this software I'm not sure about. Does that spec look like it will run DirectX9? I've had a look around on the web but can't quite figure out if this spec will run DirectX 9.

    The card will anyway.

    Good stuff, thanks marco_polo.

I got Win 7 installed on the old PC in no time and it's running smoothly so far.

Overall Windows Experience Index score is 3.6 as that's the CPU score. Graphics =4.9 Gaming graphics=4.4 RAM=4.5 HDD=5.4.

I guess only way to be sure will be to wait till the software arrives and try it then, but does it look likely to support the above requirements?
