3CX Turbo or non turbo???

Still looking for a tidy 3CX within my budget, and have 2 lined up to go see next week.
My mechanic mate, reckons I should stay away from the turbo versions!!

Any opinions on this? What are the downsides versus the upsides?

    Thanks

I wouldn't be an expert on 3CX's, but I do know from experience the non-turbo is a disaster on the road. I drove one a few times several years ago for a friend of mine and once you started up any kind of hill it was time to get out and push

no offence casino king but i really do laugh when i heart lads talking about how fast a jcb or a tractor is on the road, but yet they havent got a clue what the3 bucket is for, a jcb or a tractor arent for speeding up and down the road ,and i have ran a good few lads from about the place for carrying on in this manner with my machinery,

but back to the point, the 3cx turbo is the one to go for, easier on fuel by about a gallon for every 8 hours you work, and the non turbo is a slobering ould henscrapping machine for didling along with the council at a pase that is so slow your almost going in reverse.

if you want to get a hole dug buy the turbo, and if you want to level a pile of stone, buy the turbo,

if you just fancy sitting around slobbering all day buy the standard, but all mine are turbos and they have the gears on the forward reverse handle,

they are the only machine holding their own at the minute, but if you cant afford a 3cx the massey fermec 860 is also a good machine, for half the price

I never said anything about tearing around anywhere, the man asked for opinions on the machines and I gave him mine. I have a pretty good idea what the bucket is for, it's quite good at burying smart arses for a start. The reason I don't know much about older 3CX's is I usually worked Masseys. You're not the only one on this forum with a fleet of machinery and drivers, I've called lads back and let them go after ten minutes because I didn't like the way they drove out of the yard. However when buying any machine, be it tractor or digger, the length of time and hassle it takes to get from job to job is always a consideration. The best tractor in the field wouldn't be much use to me if it took an hour to get 5 miles down the road when there's a customer waiting for hay to be baled and the clouds are gathering.

Ok folks, I just want to clarify my question a little.

The machine will be strictly for my own farm and yard work. Road travel from job to job not an issue.
Budget is also an issue. I am hoping to find something late eighties, early ninties with 4 in 1 and 4WD for €8k to €9k, with at least a couple of buckets for the back actor.
My old fashioned mechanic friend, is not a fan of anything with turbo!! Seems to believe if you want more grunt, get non turbo bigger bore!!
Don't know if I am making sense here!

bigger bore would put more pressure on the barrells and could end up in the wall between the barrells disapearing ,i have seen it happen before in an engine, if turbo was that bad they wouldnt manufacture it, and as a matter of fact you cannot buy a new jcb from eci anymore that is a non turbo, they only sell turbo models, and have done since 2007,

look on www.mascus.ie for one ,and try the uk section you should get late eighties early ninties for that money

Maybe it's just me, but whenever anyone says "no offence but...." it's usually a polite way of saying something offensive, for example you suggesting I didn't know what I was talking about. Fear not, however, for I have returned to my usual calm, pensive, indeed almost zen-like state. And as for your rather touching show of concern for my underpants, I can assure you that they are perfectly fine and were never in any real danger :p

This one seems a bargain. Shame I can't justify stretching to that kind of money

dont be panicing its only coming into the time of year to buy yet, wait till christmas week ,when some lad is stuck and the wife is at him to get money, which often happens , then you make your move, and sneak in 4grand and drive home a good clean jcb,

    has been known to happen

I have a 3CX turbo, 1987 and I have just replaced the turbo, whihc in comparison to alot of machines was not an expensive prcess, €770 in all. I have driven non turbo versions and ther eis no comparison. You should be able to pick up a 87/88 machine for 6-7K now. I advertised mine for 7 and got only 1 person to look so there are bargains to be had. I would advise on four wheeldrive, it is useless without especially for agri purposes if you inteend going out to a field. If you retrict to yard then 2wd is better for turning circle. etc..:)
