My heart goes out his parents, its very very sad, I hope and pray that his
parents and relations can cope with this, Like everyone else I do not know
the full facts, but all I can speak about is my experience at the swimming
pool, some of these life guards really need to ask themselves are the in
    the right job,
I am not naming any pools cause I will probably get banned from here, but
I have seen many times lifeguards going to reception and then back to the
pool usually 3/4 mts with no one watching the swimming pool,

I know that some folk are messing about in the pool, shouting, jumping,
ducking each other but at the end of the day, its the lifeguards job to
make sure no one ends up dead !
RIP TO THE LAD WHO DIED TODAY IN NAVAN SWIMMING POOL.

Totally agree with the OP. I work as a full time lifeguardin the south east and 80 people in pool with 8 lifeguards on duty... 10 people per lifeguard... it is rediculous how this situation has ended RIP :(

Personally, being someone who has worked in the industry for 9 years feel that another person also in the industry should not speculate as to how an accident occured.

If you are in the industry you should be able to envisage how the staff are feeling at present. The pool was under its full capacity, any leisure centre staff will tell you that 80 persons in a 25m pool is under capacity, therefore anyone who does not know these statistics are not at management level in the industry.

My thoughts are with the family, and no blame should be placed on any persons shoulder unless a full Garda investigation deems otherwise. This could just as easily happen to those 'professionals' who are claiming that with 80 people and 8 lifeguards it should not have happened. Can we remember that lifeguards and exactly that, guards, they are there to try their utmost to prevent accidents. No blame should be placed on their shoulders, unless the Gardai state otherwise.

Was anyone sacked over this, or will we wait for another one to drown? Hmm
