Hey guys. So i was wondering.. for those of you who have possibly obtained a degree in Biomedical Science, what next? I'll be studying in NUI Galway and as far as i know, the course is not accredited. However, I'd like to study Medicine after, but if that doesn't work out.. what should i do?:confused:

as far as i know, the course is not accredited.

Its from a national university, presumably with credits officially awarded according to the Bologna system of ECTAs... why wouldn't it be?

    the course is not accredited

If the course wasn't accredited, it wouldn't be worth anything at all.

And therefore, it wouldn't be offered.

It's a level 8 degree. This means that it has to be accredited.

I called the Science department in NUIG and they said it wasnt an accredited course.

    What? Really?

Are you sure you're talking about accreditation in the sense of being a Level 8 degree as recognised by that European grading thing?

Or are you talking about the accreditation to work in hospital/diagnostic laboratories?

I'm refering to the first one, the one that proves that you learned/studied something to an approved standard.

As for the second one, you're probably right if they said it. But there should be something else you could do to get into that line of work (that isn't another degree obviously).

Means youre qualified to work in a lab. :D:D

Or that the degree is recognised and that you have been educated to a particular standard.

But from a laboratory pov, accredited would also mean qualified to work at diagnostics etc.

The two don't always overlap. Although accreditation pertaining to standard would have to be awarded with qualification to work in a lab.

I think the main difference in definition is who is doing the accrediting. So the body that regulates laboratory technicians might want more from their applicants than the degree has to offer and hence, they would not accredit it.
