    Hi,
    An idea just popped into my head a while back and I'd be grateful for any feedback. Don't be afraid to say its ridiculous, stick to your day job!!:D

    Basically the idea is this;
    Theres a lot of people in the world (especially the U.S) who claim Irish heritage and visit here and trace their ancestors. So my idea is something along the lines of tracing their ancestors for them and putting this information along with their family crest, surname meaning, and possibly a sod of turf or a stone from the area where their family originates from, into a glass frame and sending it to them. (this idea is actually sounding worse as i type it:o).
    I would just like to know if this idea already exists or is totally un-realistic. Any feedback is much appreciated.
    Cheers.

    Not sure about the glass case and the sods of turf, but there are quite a few firms offering to research your family tree for a fee. Try searching the web and see.

    If you can stay away from the "Paddy Whackery" and team up with a serious Genealogist then it could become a very good business.

    "Who do you think you are?" is a very popular TV programme both here & in the UK and I've read somewhere that it will be launched in the US very soon so your timing should be perfect.

    Oh, and if you need a film crew to capture any stories just send me a PM ;)

    There are approx 48mio US claim Irish 'ancestry'. The business graveyard has as many ideas which believed they could exploit this supposed link to Ireland.

    Like all 'slice pans', the product differentiation is probably too thin so price will be the ultimate criteria. Alas there are very few commercially successful examples of Irish giftware which have lasted the pace and continue to sell in the US.

    IMO the US love of Ireland is as remote as Paddy's Day which is not long enough to sustain an Irish business?

    Had an idea when in college a couple of years ago which involved selling Irish chocolate (real stuff) to Americans - weird thing was I actually made a few hundred a week at times doing it on eBay.

    It's weird because I know way more about business in general now than I did then but it still doesn't guarantee success (for me). :)

    Their is an Irish company selling sods of Irish turf to America and they have made a fortune. The Yanks buy it too bury Irish american in 'home land soil'.

    They had one guy who build his house with their soil and they made a fortune!
