I am looking for a basic laptop for a friend.

He just wants basic Windows / Word / Internet / Basic Photos etc.

Nothing flashy. I've heard good things about the Acer brand.
    Any users have one?

Are Celeron Processor / 1GB RAM laptops running Vista a waste
    of money?

Are they just too slow and underpowered for Vista?

What laptop would you recommend for a basic user
i.e. no games or video editing, just basic home use?

    Budget of €400 or so.

    Thanks

Celeron + 1Gb of RAM is a no go. Seriously. It was a no go 2 years ago, and it's even more so now.
