    This is a very stupid question but it's my first time applying for a grant. I'm about to send out the form and it looks like I'll end up with Level 1 - no maintainance but student service charge paid... What exactly is student service charge? Is that the €1500 reg fee or a portion of it?... I'm in a spot of bother if it's not, I just about have the money to pay the reg fee but that'll leave with about... Nothing to get by on for a few months :rolleyes:

    Student Service Charge

    The free undergraduate fee initiative was introduced in 1995/96 by the Minister for Education and Science

    Students are required to pay a student charge to cover the cost of :

    * Student Services
    * Registration
    * Examinations

    Student services costs include grants to student unions, clubs and societies, from the Capitation Committee, along with the cost of the Careers Advisory, Student Health and Student Counselling Services, Sport and Recreation and other miscellaneous student support costs together with the associated student services space costs

    Students eligible for means-tested maintenance and/or tuition grants will have their grants increased to cover the cost of the charge

    The level of the charge is €1,500 for Academic Year 2009/2010

    The costs associated with student services are considered and approved by Finance Committee and Board each year
