    Right,

I dont have a clue how getting the dole works so can someone pleas help me.

SIGNING ON: Do I have to do this and THEN go to Post Office to get paid?

If I dont sign on what happens?

And, do I sign on and get my payment the same day?

Can you sign on in the post office or does it have to be the welfare office?

One last thing, can someone basically walk me through the process of signing on and getting paid? As stated already -- I dont have a clue!

    Thanks in advance!

You need to go into your local social welfare office with your P45, Passport & Bank Statement( as ID & Proof of your address). They'll ask you to fill out a job Seekers Benefit/Allowance form. These are available to download from revenue.ie.With the present economic downturn, it may take 3-4 weeks for them to issue you a letter saying you've been approved & when to sign on (this will involve going down to your local social welfare office & sign a card)
You will collect the money from your local post office (as they have stopped lodging to money in people's accounts due to fraud).
    I'm not sure if it's the same if you're a student-perhaps it's means tested & I also think you get about 100 euro if you're under 25.

    Thanks for the reply!

Well I have applied already but the guy serving me didnt go into much detail.

All I have to do now is drop in my P45 and Bank Statements from last 3 months.

He told me to go to my local post office on 17th Sept (4 weeks wait which is normal I hear) and then Ill get the 4 weeks pay.

But what about signing on? When must i do that? Or do I collect my money on the 17th and sign on from then on?

PS - Im 27 and am entitled to 130 euro a week - maybe more as I filled out a jobseekers benefit form too.

They'll send you notice in the post when you sign in.If I was you, I'd get there as early if possible as the queues can be quite large in some cases!!

How are you only getting €130 if you're 27?

But as has been said above, you'll be grand. Whenever Social welfare need you for anything they're usually pretty quick to send you out a letter.

When it comes to signing on, i actually have to give opposite advice to what's posted above. They give you an allotted time to sign on (ie: between 12 and 4), if I were you I'd go down five minutes before it closes. In my experience (though this will obviously vary from town to town) there's usually only about two or three people in the queue at that time, so it's pretty quickly in and out with no real messing around.

    Cheers people. Much appreciated.

I only get e130 because it's something to do with my tax in 2007 or something. Dont really know! :D
