    If todays current political situation in Northern Ireland/North of Ireland could be compared with another era in Irish history, what would that be?

    It couldn't really. Maybe the devolution etc could be compared to Grattans Parliament.

    no period is comparable because the good friday agreement voted on by everybody on the island...has declared that violence is no longer a part of politics from now on...no previous period compares...we look forward in ireland now..not back..in bitterness and hatred.,..forward only..many traditions...one island:)

    also for the first time in european history there is a cooperative effort by many countries, therefore the differences on this island between the many traditions may become less important as our identity as europeans grows;)
