    Hi All,
As you can see I'm a first time poster but will also be a first timer to the races when I head to Galway on Sat.
Just coming on to look for any advise/tips as I know very little about horse racing/betting. Have placed a bet before but only to win or place, so no idea what a Yankee, multiplier and accumulator are?

    Thanks for any advise.

    Thanks for any advise.

Yankees and accumulators involve picking multiple horses to place in your bet. To be honest you would rarely do one of these on track and shouldn't be of any concern to you on Saturday. You will most likely be betting to win or each way.

If you want to bet with a bookmaker, find the bookie with the best odds for the horse you want to bet on, approach him with your money and state your bet. e.g.

You want to put €10 win on Murphys Magic @ 4/1

Find Murphys Magics number in your race card (e.g. 6)
    Approach the bookie
State Clearly "€10 win on number 6 please"
Hand him your money and collect your docket.
Keep this safe until after the race.
It might do no harm to make a mental note to yourself of where the bookie is located so you will be easily able to find when you go back to collect your winnings.

You will not be able to collect any winnings until after the "Winner Alright" announcement has been made over the public address. This usually takes 5/10 mins.

Back "each way" is another option you might consider for bigger priced horses. This consists of a win and a place bet so if the horse finishes in the top 3 you will collect something. It worth remembering that if you are placing a bet €10 each way bet, it will cost you €20 (€10 for the win portion and €10 for the place portion). A place usually pays 1/4 of the odds you put the bet on at. So if you back a 12/1 shot for 10 e/w and he comes 2nd then you will collect €40 - 10 x 3 (1/4 of 12) + your original stake back).

Sorry if the above is confusing.
