Pixmania are selling the Panasonic TX-PF42S10 TV at 756 euro + carriage.

Does anyone know if it supports MHEH5 digital teletext and epg?

This is about 200 euro cheaper than the Irish spec model TX-PF42S10L.

The panasonic french website does say 7 day epg but I wonder is is compatible with Ireland.

7 Day EPG will work but most likely wont have MHEG5 as it will be France configuration and not UK

That's very good price for an MPEG4 1080P Plasma TV. Should be OK for the EPG
as it's sent over DVB-SI (although Panasonic tend to cut corners with standards).

I had a look on Google and came across a site, based in Limerick, selling it for the same price as Pixmania. Might be worth a ring to see if they are OK.

I'll tell you whats even better!

The LG LF7700 range. Yep thats the one with the Freesat HD Tuner that ALSO has a DVB-T tuner that works for DTT (and doesnt have the short cut problems the Panasonics have) . It is also MPEG4 1080P. And hey its an LCD!

The prices at the moment are very good (STG 300 off them at the mo with Richersounds).

    32 LF7700 - STG 399 (€459)
    37 LF7700 - STG 579 (€666)
    42 LF7700 - STG 689 (€793)

And dont Richersounds transport these these through the Philips shop in Dublin as the MD John McD runs it and at minimal costs to boardsies!

I know what I would be buying. Infact I'll stick this in the MPEG4 TVs thread just in case someone doesnt read this thread as its an obvious bargain.

I dont work for Richer Sounds by the way.

How would I test for MHEG5 operation?

RTE need to be transmitting it.

Or else buy your own DTT test system.

The Service doesn't launch for maybe another year. If the Specification does not list MHEG5, then it's likely missing.

So are you saying there is no MHEG5 content in the current DTT test transmissions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,042 ✭✭✭slegs

Yes there is. RTE teletext is MHEG5 in the test transmissions.

Well then in that case I can confirm that the French Model TX-PF37X10 does indeed work with the current DTT tests and both Teletext and EPG are also working fine. Can't verify the S10 but I would assume it is the same. HTH.

Is it digital teletext (looks a bit like BBCi Teletext in Sky) or regular old blocky type analogue teletext?

I think the problem is that RTE broadcast both the MHEG5 and the original teletext on DTT.

I have a JVC UK spec set which receives the MHEG5 but you can't receive the original text because the UK spec is MHEG5 only.

The full epg appears not be transmitted in MHEG5 at the moment, it was a couple of months ago, however, the full epg is there in DVB-SI on a Euro spec tv.

I can pick up teletext on my mpeg4 box, but it's only plain jane aertel multiplexed along with the rest of the channels in Mux 1. Can't tell if there's MHEG5 in use but that looks considerably different to ordinary teletext.

Just the regular old blocky type I'm afraid.:(

Then its not MHEG5....if it were and you pressed text it would try the MHEG5 text first. You could try pressing red button as a last check.

Those TVs don't appear on the .ie version of the site. Does that mean they wouldn't be shipped from NI?

Pressing the red button does nothing. Do we know for sure that MHEG-5 content is currently being transmitted?

Yes, it is being transmitted on RTE1.

My JVC tv brings up the mheg5 box and shows the digital text and the channel in a small screen and some kind of an advert.
