All our tv's are sonys and they never seem to break or wear out. There are a lot of dinosaurs ( half ton trinitrons) circulation, still working away. Good offer to persuade people to upgrade

Can you trade in any make of TV or is it just an old Sony TV against a new Sony TV?

Bought my trinitron about 5 years ago, 2nd hand, for €100. Still going strong :pac:

So, I can trade this for €200?! Bargain!

    When does this start?

I think the key word is up to...

Unless you really want to pay premium for the sony brand will it really be such an enticing offer.

Most people will want TV's under €600 and would presume only €50 ish is going to be allowed on these.

Await the full details with interest.

After reading this article, it seems to be only Sony TVs. The article also elaborates on what types of TV will receive the most money.
    Sony wrote:
Sony said shoppers will get £50 off small Bravia sets, £100 off a 40in set and £150 off any of its largest screens.

Although it mentions sterling prices, the offer is applicable throughout the UK and ROI, so the same rules would, no doubt, apply.

I have a large Sony Triniton that I bought new and paid a lot of money for about 9 years ago and it died about 3 years ago, I was very disappointing that I only got about 6 years out of it. It's been in the garage sine it does work, but dies after being on for a few minutes. I was thinking of bringing it to the WEE centre, but now I'll probably hang on to it for a while since it may be worth something to someone for a trade in.

150€ off a 40" model, i gather from that. That should bring the price of a decent model like a 40w5500 down to about 800€

I rang the Cork store yesterday (19th), and the guy said I don't actually have to trade in. They'll give the same discount as a trade in if I ask for it. Starts at €60 off I think he said up €200 for the largest screens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭D/C

    The deal in Ireland is

    €60 off a 26", 32" and 37" Sony LCDs

    €120 off 40" Sony LCDs

    €200 off 46" and 52" Sony LCDs

Any retailer (decent retailer ) will not require you to trade in a TV and the trade in TV does not have to be a Sony TV!

Some great value especially in a Sony 40" W

    Surely still cheaper online?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭rom

Yes cheaper online but RS won't deliver and I had feck all options then go to Harvey norman's little Island. I got a KDL 46W5500 for 1450 Euro about a month ago there. Its 1899 Euro in sound store and 1799 Euro on the shop floor. The thing is to ring up rather than call in and ask them what is the best price they can do. This works with loads of things now as they have to offer a good price to get you to come to the store. Of course they try to sell you HDMI cables when you get there but your a fool if you buy them.

Yes I could have got the same TV from RS for 200 Euro cheaper but they
    1. Won't ship it to me.
    2. Where do I go if I have a problem.
    3. Harvey normans are selling the correct version for me and not the UK version.

Komplett are like 1350 but they lie about having stuff in stock but then you have delivery also so I think the extra bit for a real shop is better for this

Why not, they ship to anywhere in Ireland for £20 (boards.ie member special price)?

That's not right, they DO ship to the RoI, but they weren't willing to ship the TV you wanted and they do clearly state on their sites that some TV's can only be bought in-store.

I'm not going to defend their actions but it's their business, hell last year I tried to get quotes on two tv's at two different points in time off this crowd and never got a reply.

Anyway, totally off topic so perhaps we should call it quits

As to this scrappage "offer", I wonder if it will entice people to buy a TV who weren't already going to buy a new TV anyway?

I know the reason they won't ship it and thats fine but at least they could have told me why instead of making up BS reasons.

as for the scheme you should always ring a store and bargain rather than be there in person as you have the stronger position. Then ask about the scheme once you have agreed a price. I'd like to see anyone here get both. Sony list the TV I got for 1900 Euro which I got it from Harvey for 1450 I can't see you getting that for another 200 Euro off but best to luck to anyone that does.

BS reasons? From reading John Mc's reply to you I really cannot see how it is BS, its their business model as he expained.

I'm curious now, what is this big conspiracy regarding the Belfast RS's shipping policies to ROI? If statements, like the one quoted above, are made, then people should surely back them up with fact and with no supposition.

    Mods,

I have attempted several times to explain the reasons to Rom and other Boardies as to why we don't, on occasion, ship a small proportion of our products ANYWHERE either to the ROI, NI or the UK - and Rom has already had one thread closed by a mod (RITZ) in reference to this issue over on the Richersounds forum I understand Rom has actually purchased goods from us before and we have sent them before - and whenever possible we do break the rules especially for Boardies - however I do feel that by saying 'BS' Rom may be overstepping the mark a little and actually may undermine our business.

I am not asking for this thread to be closed as it is about a completely different subject - however it does appear that Rom has completely hijacked this thread to have a pop at Richer Sounds - when as far as I can see no reference had previously been made to Richer Sounds at all?

    Thanks as ever,

    Rom,

Get your facts straight before you make wild accussations of "BS"!

There are plenty of happy customers of RicherSounds on Boards (myself included) - John, Ash (etc) do their damned best to help members of Boards.

And don't drag a discussion that has been closed for a week now into a new thread.

I don't appreciate it, other posters don't appreciate it and RicherSounds certainly doesn't appreciate their name being sullied for no good reason.

This is your final warning. I don't want this discussed here again!

Great ad but not a fantastic offer in all fairness. It might make a difference if you were planning to get a tv but it's not going to get you to go and buy one if you weren't planning to.

The last thread was closed because of what someone else said. I am entitled
to be unhappy. This is not China.

    1. I asked could I get someone to collect the TV for me and you wouldn't go for that. No reason given.
    2. I was told by you that you don't ship some tv's because of the way they are packaged. I gave you an example of two Sharp TVs same size. You ship one and not the other.
    3. Now RS.com ships no TVs, reason for this unknown.
    4. I get told that I can't buy a TV from you from one of your employees due to its not secure to credit card bookings anymore for some reason. Even though I have bought good from you before with no problem. How do all the other stores manage and you do sell other products online so this is another reason that doesn't fly.
    5. I offered to pay extra money to get the TV delivered but no dice either.

If I got one reason that actually made sense instead of these reasons that are just fob offs.

Basically the "Computer says no" level of customer service doesn't cut it.
For all the RS fanboys, thats fine your entitled to your opinion also.

If you told me something like due to the recession manufactures are not producing enough stock. If all our stock is sold online then we have nothing in our stores. We want to get people into our stores because generally they buy accessories and additional products when they come to the store. Also the level of logistics involved with shipping TV's don't make it worth offering these online when we have plenty of customers coming into the store.

Also returns shipping can make it more profitable to buy the TV in store as its up to the customer to return the TV to us. With TVs especially large TVs the customer removes the packaging and then this makes returns very hard.

Many stores have the same policy.

Also stating that your great not to get a thread closed. lol thanks for that.

So by your own admission if I say anything bad about RS then you will get the thread closed, Is this true ?

    getting back on track...

I was in the Sony Center (Liffey Valley) on Saturday. Apparently they will know the details of the trade-in deal from Wednesday this week.

The trade-in allowance may not be available against every model. Allowance will likely be as mentioned earlier in this thread i.e. more for the bigger size LCD.

They currently have the 40 W 5500 for €1079, it will be interesting to see if the trade-in allowance will make a difference to this model/price.

BTW - DID lucan are useless - they offered me an 40 S 4000 for 899 with trade-in when it was clear that the regular price was 899.

Unfortunately, the extra premium on Sony TVs over Samsung ones makes Sony TV still a little too expensive by comparison in my eyes.
