Hey guys, i've been thinking about it for a while now and I wouldn't mind having a helmet cam for airsoft. I spend ages looking for some, but I honestly can't find some anywhere.

Anyone have any idea where I can get cheap ones?

    Cheers

    Rob

Well I've seen them on sale in gadget shops, argos, camera shops around town, the intornetz

I've generally seen that while the price might seem ok, the quality has been pretty bad, and for a good quality one it costs a load, and then even at that still doesnt look great?

Personally I rarely think those head cam vids capture the true moment in an airsoft game, mostly views of trees and the like...

Yeah I was gonna get a "kill cam" myself, but as desertstorm said the quality is pretty crap on all the affordable ones (and even the not so affordable ones). And it really doesn't capture the action the way you would like it to.

Although if your really looking for one the best I could really find was the Oregon Scientific ATC-1000/2000/3000/... helmet camera's. The higher the number the better the camera and the more it'll cost (obviously).

If you're going to get a camera rig in Maplin, do your research first. Thar place used to be very good for advice and picking up hard to find parts. They've become rubbish though. Tech staff have been replaced with sales people who wouldn't know a hand-torch from a hard drive and could care less, as long as you buy something.

There are some very good helmet/bracket cameras buy you'll have to pay €400 to get them. Option two is rig it up yourself. Miniature IP57 rated camera, preferably CCD rather than CMOS. Some form of recorder, a digital camcorder that can take an external input will do but won't provide much in the way of quality. After those you'll need a mic set up as most miniature cameras won't come equipped with one, and you'll need a whole bunch of wiring and a bracket/mount for the whole lot
Either way, it's going to cost a fair bit.

I have one of these, use it for canyoning/caving/watersports stuff, since its waterproof. The quality is OK (640x480) but nothing to write home about. Its fine for conditions where I can't/won't use a full video camera.

Maplin has gone way downhill lately :(

No idea if they are any good but Go-Tactical have those 'HERO' cams. They have a 'helmet expansion kit' for mounting.

The ATC 2K and 3K are good enough, you can get them for just over a hundred each if you look around. Loads of footage on Youtube, just make sure the sample isnt heavily compressed when comparing cams.

That Hero 3 a bullsh1t description. I'm sorry but when has 640x480 been "TV Quality"??? Maybe in the 70's...

VHoldr have a HD helmet cam, which I think costs around €280. Might be a bit expensive, but some of the footage I've seen shot with it is pretty damn good.

For anyone interested: www.goprocamera.com have small ones for sale. An alternative is to simply strap on a normal camera to your helmet the way skydivers do. They even have a sight attached to the helmet ad a bite switch to operate the camera. They can look like some form of future soldier or a borg:D
