    Not sure if this is the right forum so I apolgise to the mods in advance.

    Providing you tick all the boxes that you are entitled to redundancy in the first place.

    Am I right in thinking that an employer has to pay redundancy of 2 weeks wages for every year plus one week bonus.
    And the government has capped this at a maximum of 600 euro a week.

    And you also get 2 week for every year off the state

    Not quite. There are certain statutory minimums, based on X weeks pay per year, with certain minimums and maximums involved.

    Up to a certain amount (€600 per week?) is tax free. After that, it is taxable as normal.

    The government doesn't give the redundant person any payment for being made redundant - indeed they don't allow them received certain benefits for a period of time. The Department of Social & Family Affairs repay to the employer a certain amount of the redundancy payment.

    If you've been there more than two years,
    you are entitled to 2 weeks per year up to 600 pw
    plus another week up to 600.

    Your ex employer pays this, they get something back from the state, unless they go bust, when the State pays this

    They can pay you more than this, this falls into the section of Ex Gratia payment. you get a tax free allowance of 10160, plus another 765 or so per annum, so if you were there 5 years you get an ALLOWANCE of 13985.

    There are extra tax free allowances available, but you need to claim them.

    If you are getting made redundant, try get any outstanding holiday pay and your notice paid as an ex gratia payment as it'll be in the tax free lump sum bit - your employer won't have to pay employers prsi on it so it will cost them less is your bargaining chip.

    If you get less than 50k all in you can get Jobseekers Benefit straight away, if you get more, there's waiting periods.

    Plus one weeks wages = 23 weeks wages

    and remember you are entitled to 6 weeks notice or money in lieu

    You'll need to find out your social welfare local office to sign on.
    you need to bring a gas or electric bill,
    passport or driving license, and birth cert.
    the RP50 form you get along with your p-45

    to speed up the processing of your insurance claim.
