What income will they assess??

I am returning to college to do a postgrad course in Sept. I have been working for 2 years and graduated in 2006 - I had a grant for my undergrad degree. I am a mature student but live at home.

I thought I would not be eligible for a grant this time as my income for 2008 combined with my mother's income exceeds the threshold.

However, today I heard about something called "change in circumstances" whereby a permanent change in income since Dec 31st will be taken into account. My mother retired half way through this year and is now receiving just a state pension - so I contacted South Dub Co Co immediately to find out where I stand. They said they will send me out an "income review" form ASAP and said I need my P21 and P45 for 2008 and my mother needs a letter from her former employer stating she is retired and a letter form the Social Welfare stating what she is receiving.

My problem is the girl on the phone was vague about what income would be taken in to account now - she seemed unsure herself.

I know it will be my 2008 income, but will it be my mothers pension only or her earnings for early 2009 plus her pension? Anyone have any clue?

I know this is very late in the day to only be applying now so I'm doing my best to get it all sorted out quickly.

From my understanding they assess everything. Coming from a farm, when I bro was applying, the number of cattle we had was even assessed...

    Thanks for the reply.

I had the grant before, so I know they are thorough.

It's just that they did not tell me I needed to submit my mother's P45 or her 2008 P60 or anything - just a statement of her pension income now.

So, if that is all they ask for I assume that is all they will assess?

But knowing how thorough they are, I'm sceptical.... That's my problem!
