Confused? Sky box problem

Maybe this is a common problem, well I hope it it coz its wrecking my head!! I installed an aerial set up in a neighbours house there and put it in the RF in on his sky box and then into his tv from the RF out, worked fine but when the sky box was switched onto standby the terrestrial channels deteriorated and some of them were barely watchable, I tried it on both RF outs and it was the same on both and I switched the RF2 power on and off and tried it in a few combinations and still no joy.
Everything works perfect when the box is on, remote eyes, picture on the other tv's but as soon as its put into standby off it goes.
I'm assuming its a modulator problem in the sky box itself or is there a simple setting I forgot about??
If anyone can help let me know, thanks folks.

Mods: Maybe might be better in satellite forum, move if you think its neccessary

Strange. On my box, and any box I remember, the modulator (and RF2 9v output) stays active even when box is in standby.

But, with your situation, it seems either modulator or the 9v output gets killed when in standby. Maybe this is a new feature? *shrug*

yip, very strange, its one of the older pace standard sky boxes (they tell me approx 6 years) and there has never been an aerial input through it before as all these people have had is 1 television and Sky plugged in via scart

The modulator has just a Splitter wired as a combiner. Unlike a VHS there is no internal tuner to feed.

Don't use the RF in and use an external splitter as a combiner to add the RF out to the Aerial signal.

Should'nt have to do that as its worked in every other sky box i worked on and in any case the eyes going to the other tv's in the house probably would'nt work if I done that. Must be a fault in the box, he's just gonna have to get a new one by the looks of things.
    Thanks for the reply anyway.

Jaysus, if it's one of those older Pace 2200/2500 boxes, it's a surprise it's still going at all!

No, its the Pace DS430N, the model before the current one, its irrelevent now anyway, it must be fecked, I just thought maybe there might have been some other setting I was'nt aware of that would have activated the modulator in standby mode. Thanks for the input anyway folks.

Ah right. That's a considerably better box, in fairness. Still, there's no option to turn off modulator in standby, so new box, I reckon, or else tell them to leave it on (it don't save much, if any power in standby as it is supposed to only kill the video output - LNB power etc remains active).
