Doing Mech Engineering, i checked the timetable for that and it said that i don't have to be in till the 2nd of Sept. Got my student pack today however and it says that Orientation starts the 31st (night i think) and is compulsory..

Added to that i'm going to a debs that night....

Hmmm.. So basically i'm asking, can i just wait til the 2nd and show up for my Engineering orientation?

Any idea when we can move into on campus accom?

And if it says compulsory I'm guessing they REALLY want you to go.

Well according to what i've learned about the Monday and Wednesday, Monday is just a social gathering in the student bar, and so is tuesday. Whilst Wednesday is our introdutction to engineering, where i suppose we'll do the whole meet and greet.

So if monday is just a socail gathering i can't see it being essential. Maybe when they said compulsory they were referring to each courses orientation day.

You can steal broadband from the bushes? We're sorted so.

Anyone got a thermos? We might fancy some coffee.

This could become the new "UCD thing", i highly doubt it but you never know. A night when all first years camp around the grounds.

So does that mean everyone have to show up on the 31st??? I put in my course and it gave me a timetable starting from the 3rd :/

    This is all so confusing....

Yeah there seems to be a number of formalities that are "compulsory" or "highly recommended" in English. I think you'll miss some stuff but if its a real problem to get there for 31st its not an issue.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 Koala09

Ah ok thanks... I guess I will show up.... Otherwise I may regret it later pfff....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭Extrasupervery

    Backstards

I used the right PIN and it's still leaving me into the SIS thing

It says to contact my system administrator. And who my that be?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,619 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

    what's with this scarving ceromony?

I read this on the website:

"Depending on your programme you may be required to attend on different days and may not be in for the entire week. It is essential that you attend orientation week as it will provide you with a base to work from for the rest of the year."

Does that mean that deffinetely if i go in on the 31st it would be unnecessary and the same things would be covered when i go into my own courses first day? Which is the 3rd.....

Yes, it is only necessary for you to go in for your own course's day. I only went for one day. Some people go all week for the craic etc (especially if you're living on campus) but you don't have to :D.

Seriously folks there's nothing to worry about - just make sure you get a copy of any handouts or whatever from the orientation.
