I'm meeting an old friend of mine tomorrow in Temple Bar. It's just for a chat. But its amazing how difficult it is to actually think up a good venue for simply socialising with a friend. I wouldn't be looking for anywhere to upper class or expensive but I guess they would need to sell food for one. Not a very loud place and not a pub either. Upstairs in Eason on O'Connell St is pretty good for that kind of thing. Can yous recommend anywhere else?

What kind of food we talking? Sambos or dinner or what? There's a few places around South William South George's streets that would be good for lasagne type foods and also sambos or wraps etc. One directly across from Powerscourt SC springs to mind and in fact Powerscourt SC is a great little spot too.

Yeah just lunchie-type food. That's a good area for those kind of places alright. There's Simon's Place as well on Georges St, but can be packed at time. Never been in Powerscourt SC actually so might give a look in there.

I'd recommend against eating in Powerscourt. It's infested with cockroaches and premises there have been closed a few times as a result.

Ah, good advice. That's worth knowing!

I've been advised against Powerscourt too! (by the waitress!)

Starbucks in BT2s is good if it's not packed. Lemon and Starbucks on Dawson St

Nude Cafe on Suffolk St. just before Grafton St- simple good food in a casual cafe - Beef Burrito is cracking!!

Henry street - Cafe Aroma - does nice sandwiches & desserts

Queen of the Tarts is a very busy cafe!!

    No. No it's not.

If you're looking for a good place for lunch in the city centre then try The Winding Stair.

The Joy of Chai in Temple Bar is lovely. They do sambos and cakes and and loads and loads of teas. I'd definitely recommend it :)

    Cafe En Seine-

I LOVE IT THERE! Probably the nicest place to sit with coffee in Dublin!

eh it's a terrible place. I'm sure it's a good spot to pick up a watery chicken curry or a toilet trader, but for coffe it's a bad option.

i'd say somewhere on south william street. or the library bar upstairs in the Exchequer hotel

Too late, I know, but I have to add a vote for the winding stairs. Great soup and sandwiches, amazing coffee and great to sit there and look at life passing you by.

The Winding Stair is part of the Thomas Read Group of resteraunts/bars. Their other outlets are fairly expensive (Ron Black's, The Oak Bar, The Harbourmaster etc) so I would be inclined to think the Winding Stair falls into the same category, no?
