Just wondering if those of you that use mineral make up find a change in your skin? As in a good change? Since I've been wearing it I've found zero difference and not sure if it's all that cracked up to be? Or is it more of a long term thing?

Not a fan of the mineral make up at all...have tried a bit of the bare essentials stuff, and bought MAC's mineral foundation and powder, I found it dried out my skin really bad and the make up went on really blotchy, and noticed zero improvement in my skin...however, i've a few friends who rave about the stuff, so maybe it's just me!!

It's not me either. I bought a mineral foundation and noticed no difference in my skin and didn't even like it all that much. I think it might be a bit of a novelty thing.

Is it really supposed to improve your skin or is it just that it shouldn't make your skin much worse?

I've been using the Bare Escentuals foundation powder since this spring and my skin feels really good all the time. I've been told by people that my skin looks great which is good to hear! I've tried using a YSL foundation that I used love and I can't go back to it, it feels really heavy on my skin. A lot of the normal pharmacy (and some of the department store) brands that say mineral makeup also contain a lot of artificial ingredients, there are only a few brands that are considered proper mineral makeup.

Love mineral make up :) I couldn't go back to a heavy stodgy foundation again.

I don't think it's meant to make any magic changes in your skin, it's just supposed to be better for your skin than layering it with liquid foundation.

I suppose, my normal foundatin is MAC's face & body, it's water based and really, really light IMO, which suits me as I wear very light make up for day, and just apply an extra layer with a foundation brush for nighttime to make it a little bit heavier, so I then I wouldn't really have noticed a difference, as opposed to if I was wearing a heavy foundation.

The main thing I didn't like was how it dried out my skin so much, the girl at MAC said that their mineral foundations are not advised for dry skin.

I think I might give mineral a try again in a year or two, as they might have perfected the formulas a bit more, but for now I'll stick with face & body!

Becah I've dry/dehydrated skin and I found the first week or two wearing the bare escentuals powder a bit odd, I was going to stop using it then I noticed that my skin was actually feeling a lot better and it's evened out a lot too. It could just be that it's summer and my skin isn't as dry now, hopefully it'll last through the winter too!

absolutely love minerals foundation - i have the Urban Decay one.
I just found the liquid foundations were drying out on my skin and felt yucky.

seriously though, if you are investing, get a really really good brush. i bought the urban decay one as well, cost as much as the mineral foundation to be honest, but worth every cent!

you can get different levels of coverage but i always use good quality concealer underneath (MAC) to cover the blotchy bits, then the minerals foundation, and then some well placed Smashbox photofinish if needed

I love mineral makeup - i use Fuschia (an irish brand)

The trick is to apply it to DRY skin and use the special Kabuki brush. Your meant to apply it in light layers so you build up the coverage.

I found my skin looks brilliant during the day and it has cleared up my skin.

Love the Fuschia brand and the packaging is so pretty!

It cleared up my slightly spotty skin quite a bit. I don't think any mineral make up is good for dry skin though. You should use a moisturising liquid foundation. If you have oil skin, it seems to draw the oil away from the skin and mattify it.
I use a brand called id.
It also is a good sun block. I normally dismiss claims to have spf if it's not actually sun block, but one day my arms got fully burnt and my face was fine.

Not a big fan although I do use a 'mineralise' powder. Don't know what % minerals are in it, I just find it suits the foundation colour

If I want lighter coverage, I'll choose mineral foundation, and I love it for that, but I haven't abandoned my liquid foundations for it yet...

I don't think it's supposed to work miracles on your skin, I think it's just supposed to do less harm than a heavier foundation could do! :)

I tried the id bare minerals foundation and didn't like it at all. I have the proper brush and found the coverage grand but harsh on my (normal to oily) skin. I got my first spot in years wearing it so am just using it as a powder now to set my mac stick or clarins liquid foundation.

I've just started using Bare Escentuals starter kit three weeks ago, so far so good (even the husband noticed the difference - he could'nt say what but hey he's a man). I have sensitive skin so absolutely no reactions to it at all - just smooth looking natural looking skin(no cakey make-up look)! The only trouble I have with it is the mess and I'd hate to have to take all those wee pots on holiday to find when I open them up again the minerals are all over the place:mad:

I don't like wearing too much foundation so I find the minerals work pretty good and I think a decent brush is as important as a good mineral product.

I'm not very good at applying make up either so I find the mineral ones blend really well - no tide marks!

I'm using bare essentials at the moment

You just get used to opening them :)

I subconsciously tap mine off the table three times before I open them. Just habit now, cause it knocks the excess powder back down the holes and off the lid so it's not as messy when you open it.

i wanted to get a mineral foundation but i have a few faint freckles and would often have atleast one spot, which is why i never got the foundation yet, and have stayed with my mousse foundation. can the mineral foundation still give me a good cover?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,170 ✭✭✭E.T.

Christina_x, I absolutely love the coverage of the bare escentuals powder - I've a birthmark which doesn't really bother me that much on my face (it's about 1cm long) and the girl in Sephora covered it just using the powder and a small brush. I don't bother covering it everyday but I do use the small brush to cover the odd spot that I get. A few people have said to me that my skin has a really nice glow but looks really natural. I used get wicked spots from a YSL touche eclat foundation with a built in brush and I had to plaster on so much concealer and foundation to cover them that it looked ridiculous. I've just bought a bare escentuals blemish healing powder which I'm trying out at the moment, I'll post up if I notice it getting rid of spots quicker!

I used one of the cheaper brands cant remember which it was.. bought it in boots.
really really dried out my skin so was a total waste of money, went on horrible too and very little coverage.
what one would yous recommend ? I dont usually have dry skin so was surprised at the reaction!

I've been thinking of trying mineral make up, I like a bit of coverage though, I have an oily t-zone and quite shiny skin. I get the odd spot every now and again :P How much is the bare escentuals one?

I like bare esscentuals range, it gives fairly good coverage, but i'm not great at using it with the concealar brush, it looks too heavy. I think the best foundation of all time is MAC studio fix. i love it. I got the bare esscentuals starter kit, which was good, but you're left with a load of colours that you'll prob never use. the brushes are nice, i use the kabuki brush to put my liquid foundation on, its really good actually. I use mineral make up most days, if i have a wedding or anything i'll use MAC liquid foundation underneath and dust it off with a bit of mineral makeup.

I've never seen any brand claim using their foundation will help your skin!
Bare Escentuals say you can sleep in their makeup without it causing spots etc but they are one of very few mineral brands that don't put artificial additives in their powders.

BE and MAC's powder foundations are the best, i've found.

I use the bare essentials and really like it - it is the first makeup not to give me spots. One thing I find is that it doesn't last the full day - is that because I don't apply it properly or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 952 ✭✭✭bills

I love mineral foundation. I have been using it for a few years. Its meant to be better for your skin than traditional foundations but it would not improve the condition of your skin.
I find it gives really good coverage & definetely lasts all day on me.

I've tried a few of the high-street brands - loreal, max factor and boots no 7 mineral foundations. I hated the max factor one (very orange) and the boots no 7 one looked a bit "dirty" or something after about a hour's wear. I now only use it occasionally over my regular foundation, just a very light dust as it's a bit sparkly, nice to give a lift for a night out, but wouldn't use it as foundation in it's own right, IYKWIM.

I love the loreal one though, I find it's perfect for my skin, been using it daily for 2 yrs or more now, and it has made a difference to my skin. If I ever decide to use a liquid foundation for a change, I end up with spots after just a day or two, and they feel too heavy for me now, I'm dying to wash it off after a few hours.

Since I started using it people have been commenting on how "flawless" my skin looks (believe me, I don't have flawless skin!), and it gives very good coverage, hides redness and covers most spots if I have any. If I have any whoppers of spots (at that time of the month), or very bad dark circles under my eyes, I pop on a bit of regular concealer first, let that dry, then put the mineral foundation on over it. I find the loreal colours matches up really well (I have pale skin), wheras some others are just too orangey-brown.

Do you use a primer with it? I like their own primer, when I wash my face at night a load of makeup still comes off on the facecloth! I find if I put it on without the primer it just doesn't last as well, but I think this applies with all foundations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭molly111

I just started using the primer - how much should I use? I am using a pea size amount is that too much or too little?

I use a bit less than that but it probably depends on your own skin. Anything more than that feels too slick on my skin and I feel like the powder clumps on the first place the brush touches my skin and then ends up sliding off soon.

How much are we talking for the Bare Essentials foundation? Considering going down this route as I can't seem to find a light enough colour in liquid foundations once they oxidize....
