Hi, I'm not too sure how to put this but I started the yasminelle pill about a month ago. I took it the day I got my period but I'm very confused (I've read the leaflet over and over) and I still can't get my head around it. If I took the first strip on the day of my period...then how am I supposed to get it during the 7 day break? Surely I'd get it on day SEVEN of the 7 day break (28 days later)???

The reason I'm worried is cuz i started the 7 day break about 4 days ago and I still haven't gotten it, having said that I don't know if I'm even supposed to get it during the 7 day break am I? :(

    Hi there,

The bleeding you experience while on the pill is a withdrawal bleed and not a true period, your natural menstrual cycle is suspended while you are on the pill.

After correctly starting the pill on day one of your last period you should be covered again pregnancy providing you took it correctly, were not sick or an antibiotics, etc. Once you have taken 21 pills you then take a week off during which you will most likely get a bleed, this could start on day 5 or 6 or in some cases especially when just starting off on the pill you may not have a bleed at all. So relax and start your next packet after the 7-day break, if you do not have a bleed you could then consult your GP to be on the safe side but it would not be uncommon.

You can read more about this on http://www.yasminelle.com/

I have been taking Yasmin for about 5 years.

I presume that everyone is slightly different but with me, I'd take my last pill at 8 on Thursday morning and would start my period at about 11o'clock on the Monday morning (it's great to be able to time it so exactly!!) so that's 4 days into the 7 day break. As far as I remember it took a few months to settle into that routine though. Your body has to get used to the hormones you're taking.

Again, I stress that it might be different for other people. If you've taken the pills correctly (not missed any) then you shouldn't be pregnant but if you're really worried you should do a test to put your mind at rest.

Hope it all works out ok.

    Fonril.

When you say you took the first strip on the day of your period, what exactly do you mean? When you start on The Pill, you take one pill on the day you get your period, one pill the next day etc etc until you finish the packet 21 days later. Then you have a 7 day break, unless you have a 28 day pill which includes 7 placebo pills, ie contain nothing but keep you in the habit of taking a tablet every day.

Anyway, as the above poster said, it's not technically a period when you are on The Pill but I don't think you have anything to worry about. I don't always get mine at the same time, sometimes it's day 2 of my seven day break and sometimes it's day 6. Also, seen as you have just started on The Pill, your body is probably adjusting.

If you think you haven't been taking your pill properly or whatever, maybe you should get a pregnancy test to put your mind at ease. Best of luck.

Day 1 of your natural period: You start taking the first of 21 pills. You continue to take a pill every day for 21 days. On days 22-28, you take no pills. Your period should start anywhere between days 22 - 28. In my experience, it typically takes 4 or 5 days for a period to start during your week off. However, if this is your first pack of the pill, it's entirely possible you won't get a bleed at all. When my flatmate started on Yasmin, she didn't get her first bleed until she had already started the second pack.

Hi, when I was on the pill i took the last one on a saturday morning and my period arrived the following wednesday around 1pm - a few of my friends have different timings, some got it the day after they took the last one.

Guess it depends on pill and person but sounds pretty normal :)
