    SD
    Dark Match

Jimmy Wang Yang pinned Alex Riley who cut an extremely scripted/phoney promo before hand and was wearing a High School letter jacket with no sleeves.

    Superstars

    1) Shelton Benjamin pinned Tyler Reks with a kick to the head that missed by literally a foot, followed by the paydirt.

    2) R-Truth pinned Charlie Hass who was wearing new gear - long black tights with a steer skull on the side and kickpads (?).

    Smackdown

    1) Mysterio and Cryme Tyme vs. Jericho, Show, and Ziggler. Dolph gets the pin on Rey following a hot sequence including a knockout punch from the Big Show on Rey.

Sit down interview with Matt Hardy with Josh Matthews. He apologizes for everything and Jeff accepted. A lot shorter then I expected.

Kane comes out to cut a promo, Khali interrupts, swats away the chair and lays the boots to Kane before he escapes up the aisle way.

    2) Knox vs. Finlay. Knox had one of those inset promos during his enterance. Couldn't hear it, but Knox was wearing glasses and had his beard braided up for the promo. Finlay wins by DQ when Knox doesn't break a 5. Afterward Knox destroys Finlay with the ringsteps.

Hardy promo. They bring out a bunch of ladders, tables and chairs around ringside and the ramp. Hardy says he was advised by doctors to retire. Though he never listened before and he isn't starting now. Punk interrupts and says Summerslam will be Hardy's last match. Punk goes to pull Hardy off of the ladder, but Jeff lands on his feet and gives Punk the twist of fate. As he was giving him the twist of fate, the ladder accidently tipped over towards both men and hit Hardy's unprotected head while he was in mid-air.

    3) Maria and Melina vs. Layla and Natalya. Melina pins Natalya. I sorta zoned out during this one and I don't think Layla or Maria ever even entered the match. Melina knocked over Michelle McCool who was doing commentary at ringside in the middle of the match.

    Mysterio backstage promo.

    4) Main event: Hardys/John Morrison vs. CM Punk/Hart Dynasty. During Morrison's enterance, the stage hand knocked over both fans that blow Morrison's hair which was a funny moment and made Morrison laugh. Hardys come out together with their old music for their entrance. Matt pins CM Punk with a twist of fate. Hot finish. In the middle of the match, about 8-10 venders hit the floor with Jeff Hardy Armbands for $20 a pop, and it completely distracted many kids bugging the parents to buy them (which many did, they're making a killing on what essentially is torn-up panty hose). Punk and the Hart Dynasty colored coordinated and all wore black and pink. Matt had new purple tights. The faces celebrated to close the show.

    Dark match

Hardy pinned CM Punk in a steel cage match with the twist of fate. After the match CM Punk layed still in the middle of the ring for nearly 20 minutes before security started clearing people out and the ring crew was breaking down the ring around him. I think he was ribbing the referee who had to kneel beside him the entire time. After a while the referee pretended to do CPR and Punk no-sold it.

    ECW

    Hurricane v. Paul Burchill
Hurricane has a longer, drawn out entrance video. Hurricane hit an arm drag and tried for a choke slam. After that failed, Hurricane hit a Thesz press. Hurricane then eluded a charge and sent Burchill to the floor. Hurricane connected with a tope as the match went to break. After the break, Burchill had control of Hurricane with a rear chin lock. Burchill hit a short clothesline as Hurricane powered out and got a near fall. Burchill then hit a double flying knee and led to a near fall. Burchill went back to a rear chin lock as the crowd chanted for the Hurricane. Burchill went for a superplex but Hurricane shoved him off and then connected with a high crossbody. Hurricane followed up with a clothesline for a near fall. Burchill then dodged a charge and hit a bicycle kick but Hurricane came back with a hurarcanrana from the top rope. They then went home with Hurricane missing a shining wizard, Burchill failing on a suplex try and Hurricane scoring with the eye of the Hurricane (modified reverse DDT). That led to the three count
    Hurricane d. Burchill, Pin, 10:46, **½.

This show has a new interviewer, Courtney Taylor, who’s a former model (shock, huh) who had been in FCW (real name Beverly Mullins). She was about to interview Tommy Dreamer when William Regal walked in. Regal baited Dreamer allowing Vladimir Kozlov to come in with the sneak attack. Kozlov used two headbutts and held Dreamer while Regal connected with a running knee lift. After the break, Christian and two trainers were tending to Tommy.
The Abraham Washington Show was up next. Washington had his “Applause” sign out and took shots at the crowd for being illiterate. Goldust was introduced as this week’s guest. Washington asked about Goldust’s feud with Sheamus which led to the needless return of the stuttering gimmick. Washington thought he was being “Punk’d” by Ashton Kutcher. He then brought out Sheamus who said Goldust got lucky last week but lighting wouldn’t strike twice. Goldust spoke some nonsense utterance and that was it. This was remarkably boring.
Dinner theatre-level acting time as Courtney Taylor interviewed Tiffany. The GM said Tommy Dreamer left the building for evaluation but that the main event would continue if Christian could find a partner.

    Yoshi Tatsu v. Zack Ryder
Yoshi hit an arm drag to start but Ryder caught him going up the top rope. Ryder began to work on the left shoulder and arm with a single arm DDT and an arm bar. Yoshi countered and moved into an arm bar of his own. Yoshi came back with a bevy of kicks and knees. That led to a near fall. Ryder tried to slip into the Zach attack but Yoshi countered with a leg sweep. Yoshi then hit a rolling senton, which prompted Matt Striker to reference Japanese wrestler Dick Togo who was a part of Kaientai briefly in WWE. Yoshi went for an elbow drop from the apron onto Ryder in the ring, but Zack blocked it with his knees. That led to the sudden three count. Too bad, because the match was building nicely up until that point.
    Ryder d. Yoshi, Pin, 3:04, *¼.

After the break, they aired an extended video package hyping the DX vs. Legacy feud. The announcers then ran down the updated SummerSlam card, including the newly added Christian vs. William Regal match.
Christian was then in Tiffany’s office, saying he was ready to fight Regal and Kozlov alone if he had to. Tiffany said he had to choose and partner and then in the background, someone entered the room off-screen. Everyone did their introductions and the show went to its last commercial break. After the break, it became apparent that the mystery tag team partner was Ezekiel Jackson.

Christian & Ezekiel Jackson v. Vladimir Kozlov & William Regal
Matt Striker ran down a bunch of impressive-sounding statistics about Jackson as he made his way to ringside. Regal and Christian started and worked off of a top wrist lock for a while. Regal quickly went over and tagged Kozlov. Christian landed some jabs for a bit before Kozlov caught him with a knee lift and went into a backbreaker submission. Christian slipped out and fired Kozlov to the floor where he hit a baseball slide. The big Russian returned to the ring and regained the advantage. He shoved Christian through the ropes and to the floor and tagged out to Regal. Regal got a near fall and worked over Christian in the corner. Kozlov came in and held a front face lock for a bit. Regal tagged back in and Christian regained the advantage with some strikes. He used a backslide for a near fall. Christian then came off of the second rope with a sunset flip for another near fall. Kozlov and Jackson then both hit the ring, did a brief stare down, and then Jackson turned on Christian with his inverted uranage. Regal then moved in for the pinfall. After the match, Regal instructed Kozlov to hit the final curtain and for Jackson to hit the uranage again. The three men linked arms and celebrated as the show faded to black.
    Kozlov & Regal (x) d. Christian & Jackson, Pin, 5:10, *.

Dunno. They seem to be playing the "Jeffs leaving" card, so maybe he really is. Either that or its a swerve. While I think he should drop the belt to Punk and take a few months off if he feels he needs to, I'd rather not see him leave for the foreseeable future (I'd say he'll be back either way). He has been unbelieveably good the past year

a couple of bits stood out for me
Hardy says he was advised by doctors to retire. Though he never listened before and he isn't starting now.
interview with Matt Hardy with Josh Matthews. He apologizes for everything and Jeff accepted
Hardys come out together with their old music for their entrance. Matt pins CM Punk with a twist of fate.

So Hardy will be injured so badly by Punk in TLC that he will have to retire (and probably return to attack Punk in the middle of a main event like a year down the line) due to his injuries. Meanwhile Matt who despite being popular in his own right has been piggy backing off his brothers popularity in recent weeks to get back as a face will probably seek vengance on CM Punk who he actually got the pinfall victory over in this match and thus get somewhat of a main event push and fill the void his brother is going to leave.

I think you've hit it spot on there BH, Matt to come up to main event status.
Possibly win the belt some time in the future and then is when Jeff returns to look to be the first competitor for his new belt?

Unless of course there is a swerve and Matt costs jeff the title at Summer Slam, moving up the heel ranks in SD

I would usually agree with that kind of swerve but then there would be two big heels on SD, Punk and Matt.

More straight forward to have Matt trying to help jeff in the match and then feel the need to uphold jeffs honour.

This is WWE we're talking about; Matt will come to try to help Jeff, screw up and make him lose it while Jeff gets to hurt to continue.

Matt then cuts a promo how he's going to defend the family and/or Jeff's honor and we got our new main feud angle.

I read earlier this year that there gonna be pushing Matt for main event but the only way they could see it happinging is that he turns heel (strangely enough he did), i wreckon there's more to meet the eye with this story line, then again as we know WWE are WWE, jeff deserves to be champion we all said it two years ago then the muppet got suspended under the wellness act! but he's non stop, does everything and anything to get himself where he is today! matt will never be as good as him, it will be sad to see him go!
The other alternative would be Punk v Dead man, that would be interesting! i wreckon punk will win at summerslam (inevitably) and force hardy to supoosedly retire (as he is leaving) taker will make his prescence known take the title at the royal rumble then retire at wrestlemania to make way for jeff hardy's spectaculer return.

    I wouldn't normally say this......

I would recommend we avoid analysing/predicting whats going to happen with JEFF, Punk and MATT.

The writing on smackdown is brilliant these days so I am confident whatever happens is going to be good, We are more likely to enjoy it if we don't over analyse it.

RAW is so crap it needs analysing. Smackdown is for enjoying.

Dr.Phil couldn't analyse Raw the way it is at the minute.

    I agree with you.

I think it shows how much SD is better than Raw, how every week one of these threads dominate in an analyse kinda way.
When a storyline/angle is put over on raw its usually a reaction to something of no interest that happened before hand, thus, leading to just an equal displeasure of an angle.

On smackdown, well in short its written with conviction.

    :)

It is, and it is allowed to be a wrestling show. Maybe as its on a Smaller network there is less ratings pressure.

All we need now is jericho and show to break up as a team so big show won't be on smackdown anymore. Once a week is too much, twice is enough to encite hatred for the fella.

The Punk Hardy feud has played out really well. Its a shame we knew about the contract situation.

I thought the fact there was a "Will he-wont he" thing running for the majority angle actually added to it.

    Oh

This is the first time they have mentioned Jeff leaving on tv from what I remember. I don't think the contract situation was used on tv.

hehe, I forget where I read it but someone described Shows new look as 'Justin Credulous'

    Punk is a hero.

I've enjoyed Punks heel turn on Smackdown. Had a nice slow build up and it was a little bit different. The TLC match should be great. Also no selling CPR

Pity they didn't go babyface Jackson v Kozlov. Maybe it will come down the line. I guess the two of them under Regal's wings will be good for them for now.

If Matt is getting pushed into the main event, FFS you'd think he'd drop a few pounds. Anyone who makes it in the main event have in some way a good image, however Matt is looking a bit of a mess.

Hes not able to do cardio at the moment in fairness to him what with the various injuries lately.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Matt isn't fit to wrestle yet. He was probably only back so he could reunite with his bro one more time.

    Anyway...

I enjoyed smackdown again. My favourite thing is when you watch the show anybody can win (Unless you know who won by reading spoilers). It doesn't matter if your champ or No 1 contender you can lose to anyone else. That helps the show and makes everyone on it worth watching.

Matt's new tights are not a good look

Punk's promo to Jeff was good but i expected him to pull out a bible at some stage :D

It was great seeing a Hardy Boyz reunion with their old music back - Jeff will be so missed on SD and in the WWE if he is gone after SS he is the most over guy currently in WWE and has been for some time :(

Cryme Time and Big Show looked real sloppy in the tag match thank god for Jericho and Rey
