Anyone else think it's getting ridiculously long? Goalies will be able to score soon.

We use the O'Neills sliothars, i dont think its gotten any lighter in recent years, just maybe more aerodynamic due to new materials be used. Guys are also maybe more fitter, with the emphasis being put on the physical aspect of the game rather than skills side of it. So maybe thats why goalkeepers can drive a ball further now than 20 years ago.

Not true. It's not against the rules for a goalie to score. In fact as I recall I think Brian Mullins from Offaly scored a point from a puckout in recent years in a qualifier game.

Personally, I remember our goalie in an under 21 game scoring two points from puckouts with a gale force wind.

Well I recall been at an intermediate game a few years back and Brendan Cummins hit the crossbar with a puckout and I was talking to an inter-county referee after and asked him if it would have been allowed and he said that it cant go straight over it must hit something first i.e. the ground, the crossbar, the other goalie etc. I never followed up on it after just took he's word for it, I know they can definitely score from a puck out in the 7's alright and its listed in the rules of 7's as a variation on the normal rules so to me that would imply that its not allowed in a regular 15 a side hurling match

I think a goalie scored in the Waterford vs Clare u21 game a few weeks ago, don't know if it was from a puckout though.

If a goalie has the ability to drive it directly over from a puckout then it should be allowed imo.

Nothing in the section 'scoring' on Page 14 to say that a keeper can't score direct from a puck out!
