Ah, so we're into the season of trying to resist acquiring preair episodes. :P Shall more than likely be back here later to discuss it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 42 Dr Hfuhruhurr

Well Ive just watched the new preair show...and i have to saw its one that does not dissapoint .Dexters nemesis is revealed right at the start and by all acounts this is going to be a cat and mouse all the way through. The guy is a brilliant actor and does an excellent baddie (cliffhanger fans might recall ) .

Most of the main characters have thier own storylines again which add extra spice to the show. great to see and old character from season 2 return.

Also a new hot reporter added to the mix !!!

    Bring it on .

I really enjoyed that - thought last season was a bit slow, so good to see the pace upped slightly. Lithgow is a great addition to the cast and it's good to see Keith Carradine back as Lundy, and Desmond Harrington upgraded from guest cast to a co-starring role is good too. The only bad thing about the episode was the stupid name they picked for the baby - surely they could of come up with a better name for Dexter's son.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,413 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    It was... OK.

I don't know... for a season premiere, it was quite slow-moving.

    We needed to see
more of Lithgow's "Trinity Killer" (though I think we saw enough John Lithgow with his arse out in both scenes).

I also got a bit peeved at
the whole fatherhood tiring Dexter out
. It was one of the things that worried me -
all the promos / posters for season 4 rely heavily on his newborn son. Not one gave an inkling to a new serial killer.. I hope this Dexter's burden of fatherhood doesn't continue throughout the season as I'll soon tire of that.
End to the episode left it on a nice cliffhanger though!

PS - never mind Lithgow hamming it up in 'Cliffhanger'.. give 'Raising Cane' a watch. Absolutely terrifying in that!

Wasn't great, and for whatever reason the cliffhanger ending didn't really worry me like it has in previous seasons and episodes.

I really enjoyed it actually, think it could be really good.
You don't want them jumping right into the Trinity killer,it works better being fleshed out bit by bit over the entire season like the Ice Truck Killer. John Lithgow is brilliant, even though he wasn't in it that much,he seems terrifying. Great to have Lundy back and Deb investigating her father. Also Angel and Maria was interesting, funny when Vince kept going into the lift with them.

Him bing tired because of fatherhood is also a really good storyline as it is interupting who he is.So does Dex still have that guys body in the car when he crashed?

I thought it was good but not great. Tired Dexter will get old very fast. Good cliffhanger though. Loved John Lithgow and look forward to seeing more of him
    I had to laugh at
Dexter singing on the phone while looking through the photos on the computer
The only bad thing about the episode was the stupid name they picked for the baby - surely they could of come up with a better name for Dexter's son.
I'm assuming he was named after Harry, Dexter's father?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,660 ✭✭✭SDTimeout

I'm not clear on this. Did dexter figure out that he may well be debs biological sister due to harrys affair. Or do WE know that.

I'm guessing deb will find out. Side with quinn. Argument against dexter idk.

Great opening, nice cliff hanger but i suppose since its only the first episode like above it didnt leave me worried as other ones

Episode wasn't earth shattering but I'm looking forward to seeing how things pick up.

For the most I enjoyed it:
I hated "Third Rock From the Sun" but Lithgow was very good here. I liked that he was revealed in the first five minutes. It was a bit convenient of course that just happened to be the one case that haunted Lundy...
Also did I miss something - why do they think the Trinity Killer started in Miami just because there was a murder 30 years ago? How on earth does he know that was the first one?!

The Dexter-getting-tired thing would get old very quickly, just as Dexter's worry about marriage did last season. The soap opera elements need to be balanced and I though they were severely askew last year. Still it could lead to him making mistakes with his killings, although I disagree that the car crash was a good cliffhanger - car crashes are a tiresome cliché on TV.

One thing that I actively did not like was Angel hooking up with Laguerta. She's his damned boss and it must be against regulations. Even if it wasn't, she should know better. I've complained before that she's a crap captain, but this really makes it even worse. Get rid of her (again!).

Do we have to use spoiler tags? Surely people know that there will be spoilers from us discussing this episode - maybe change the title to say, "Spoilers! Read at your own peril!"

I found it quite interesting. My favourite scene was the somewhat reconstruction of the opening credits, only everything is off slightly. Very smart. But I agree with everyone else, this whole tiredness thing could go bad very fast.

The car crash at the end seemed kind of fruitless with the title character in the car. It's somewhat obvious that he survived, but maybe any injuries he sustains will change how he has to kill.

I think people seem to be missing the point of the car crash - the cliffhanger has nothing to do with Dexter surviving or his injuries, as we know he will survive and injuries will most likely be minor. The cliffhanger is what is he gonna do with the body he has stashed in the boot? That place is gonna be crawling with police within minutes.

I presume he would have dumped the remains beforehand as well, but that's a good point.

It is possible, but I think because he had to get medicine for his son, he may not have gotten the chance or was only on his way to do that. But we'll see in episode 2 I guess. Damn pre-air, now there's so long to wait.

Anyone else think they might give him a week off work or something and that'll sort tiredness for season?
I considered an absurd outcome for carcrash, Lithgows characters is on leisurely walk down the road. Sees a serial killer in need and gets rid of body.:D Bit unlikely but sure.

No need for spoiler tags from here on in.

I enjoyed the episode as well - the alternate opening sequence with Dex's shirt being dirty, him yawning, etc was funny. But the whole baby thing could get old fast... It'll be interesting to see where it goes - the cliffhanger ending was good but I think, as already mentioned, that it'll be anticlimactic, just turning out that Dexter has already disposed of the body...

It would be interesting to see if it actually had time to dispose of the body and also how any injuries he will sustain are going to affect his methods.

S04E01 is not due to air until the 27th of September- are we going to be treated to being drip fed pre-air episodes? The question in my mind at the end- was did he manage to get rid of the body parts before the crash (it flashed to his baby's prescription in his hand while driving just before the crash- so I assume he did).

I think Warehouse 13 is next on my hitlist.......

I wouldn't be so sure. He seemed to be in such a rush that he may have gone straight to the pharmacy. Plus, where's he gonna have stashed the body parts? His old apartment maybe? He certainly wouldn't have had time to go sailing.

Here's hoping he has to drag himself out of the car injured and start burying the body in the woods before the cops make it to the scene of the accident. That would be fun to see.

Maybe the'll arrive at the scene - 'man it was the worst RTA I have ever attended in my 20 years of service' :D

What was the signficance of Dexter ordering that Cuban(?) food 3 times?

Good episode though. I've seen Lithgow play a psycho before(Richocet/Cliffhanger) and he's been fúcking awesome.

I can see Quinn becoming the new Doakes and taking an interest in Dexters social life, although I hope they don't because it's just recycling a storyline.

That's right, it did show the prescription, so maybe he did get rid of the body. I would assume so, since driving around with a chopped up body in the back wouldn't be such a smart thing to do. I'd be pretty sure that he's not going to be seriously injured, or that the cops will find all the body parts, as that would pretty much finish the series right there.

The constant tiredness could get, eh, tired after a while. Lithgow is a definite interesting element, though I agree with ixoy's point on how Lundy knew that Miami was his starting point, just because it was 30 years ago. Maybe he started the previous week?

Have to wait till October now for episode 2. Damn my impatience!

I doubt he got rid of the body. He was rushing to get home with the medicine for the baby. No way he had time to drop the body in the sea. Maybe he stashed it somewhere else but I doubt it. I hope I'm not wrong as I'd love to see how he deals with it.

I too would like to see that he has the bags in the car, but I think he left them at the place he murdered him.

    It was a good start.

Lithgow will be a great addition. Maybe put some clothes on him though...

Hope the body parts are in the car. Not much of a cliffhanger(unless Lithgow shows up in a chopper XD) otherwise.

A feck, was not aware of this :(

Better episode than I thought it would be. Lots of interesting scenes, dexter singing to his son while looking at dead bodies, dexter telling his son he's a killer.

Liked the mock up of the starting - everything going wrong etc

I think he got rid of the body myself, bags would have come out of the back of the car had they still been in there.

Well the "official" 4x01 is now out and it has a kick ass 3 minute preview of the season at the end, including what seems to have happened after the cliffhanger...

Obviously contains spoilers, so don't watch it if you want to go into the season without knowing anything at all!

    .

Fair sure that that was coffee. I enjoyed the episode, false start was brilliant and I liked the slow wire-esque build where the serial killer was barely show and his motives remained a mystery.

Also hope Lithgow never puts his clothes on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,569 ✭✭✭The Don

Its good to have Dexter back and the first episode was great. Loved the false start even thought they had done something similar before. Dexter being tired throughout the whole episode brought something new to it. Messing up in court, being a bit sloppy, not being able to focus like he can. The singing to his baby scene was great.

John Lithgow was fantastic in the episode. He didn't have much screen time but he got across so much in the time that he had. He is shaping up to be a really interesting character. Not knowing much about him will really keep us interested to see what his motives are. Lundy being back chasing him will force Dexter to be extra cautious again. I'll also be interesting to see how Debra reacts around him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

Yeah great start to the season. Dexter losing focus will be interesting.

Had to quit half way during that "This season on Dexter" clip at the end. What is it with Americans and needing to see what they've seen at the start then see what they are going to see at the end. It pretty much ruined the beginning of next weeks episode.

I thought it was great. Lithgow was good. I look forward to seeing where this story goes. The scene where everything from the opening credits went wrong was brilliant i thought.

Bad point of the episode was the new relationship inside the office. Why?

They have been hinting at something between them for a long time now. Maybe it was just that they were partners but I always felt that something happened between them.

No- they can go and mumble at each other in Spanish to their hearts content. They were an annoying distraction- the potential of the relationship with the journalist and how it might be developed, in comparison has far more promise.

On a related note- Showtime are scouting for locations in Ireland at the moment- nice! First we get Primeval, now possibly some Showtime. :)
