OK, many of us have heard that the ESB are rolling out plug in points for electric cars, which is good, but are we putting all our eggs in one basket by doing this?

Could this be a vested interest? The car makers can meet their emmision reduction targets by building lots of these cars, all well and good without any way to power them for the masses.

Hydrogen and bio-fuels will also be need to sustain the growth of these car types also.

The main obstacle to the next generation of motors overtaking the internal combustion engine is not the availibility of the cars themselves, but the means to fuel them.

As engineers, we will be tasked with coming up with feesible solutions to the roll out of such infrastructure. What are the main challanges we face in this? How can we leapfrog this endeavour so that our children and grandchildren can have the same freedoms we have today when oil becomes too expensive for them to afford?
