    Hi Guys,

I have an idea that I'm thinking of following up but I'm looking for some info on where a new start up would begin looking for a supply or stock of DVDs for rental.
Do you have go out and buy them or is there companies that will rent to you for a period of time??

If anyone has any experience of this industry your advice would be greatly welcomed.

    Colm.

Dead industry that dies a more and more each day.

Torrenting, Sky Movies, knockoff DVDs etc all buried it.

I'd be very very very wary of it, I haven't bought/rented a movie or album for about 5 years, I torrent everything

yea, I used to work in Chartbusters (lol not really experience in the industry by any means) while in college a few years back. Even then the managers were telling me of how business has gone way down.. You see now a days that the traditional video store is gone. You can not only rent DVDs, you can now buy DVDs there, buy CD's, video games, Sweets..... get a Tan in chartbusters...

    Thanks guys,

I was thinking more along the lines of delivering the dvds, just like a pizza.
You go to website or phone, order dvd and we'll deliver at what ever time you require and arrange a time to collect from you. Takes the hassle of going into town to collect it and return it.
Isn't there still a lot of people that's not capable of torrrenting stuff, I know plenty.

    Hi Colmm23,

Just like screenclick.com they are a multi million euro company and it took huge investment to start there bussiness up.

Seen them recently on Irelands young and rich list....they are working from spain now but I think they stated it took them something like 750000 euro to kick the business off.

Anyway if you are going to do this best of luck but as the guys stated above be vert wary....

yes there are loads of people who cant torrent, my mother for example. so she gets her movies from either me or someone else who puts them onto a dvd for her.

have you worked out the costs involved with delivering them? and the issues with delivering an 18 cert movie to someone who may be underage ?

Cant see where to money would be in it, you deliver movie, get 3 or 4 quid for it for the night, them you have to arrange to collect it the next day when the people are in, which is most likely be after 7p when they come in from work which leaves it too late for you to re-rent it that night etc etc. not to mention infringes on the hour or 2 delivery time you have each night betweem 6-8pm (as no one wnats a movie after 8pm and no one will be home before 6pm).

Insurance, transport, staff will all savage any margins.

Not to mention the advertising budget to get an idea like this out there will be huge, a few leaflets will be p1ssing in the wind. Your going to need large media spend imo

Sorry to be very negative, just my opinion on it.

wether you think it is a load of bolox or not....It still does not get away from the fact that screenclick.com is a massive company with a fantastic concept that works...
