    Alright,

Best mate from school got engaged a few months ago and has asked me to be best man.
This is also the first wedding out of our group of mates so I'm a little short on knowledge of what is expected and the general role the best man plays, or is there anything beyond the organising of a stag:D and a speech on the day:confused:.

    Cheers in advance!

Well to be honest about it....no, not really. The big things are obviously the stag and the speech, but you'll also have to do MC at the wedding as well I presume.
I'm best man(first time) in two weeks and I was told a few weeks ago that I'll be the MC and in charge of things once the crowd get to the reception.
I was horrified at first when I heard this, as I was thinking its bad enough having to say a speech, but then it dawned on me that its actually a blessing. Why? Well simply i'll have to ask the guests to sit down for dinner, introduce/welcome the bride and groom into the reception, ask the priest to say grace, and then introduce the speakers.
All this is before I get to say my speech, so by the time its my turn I'll have eased my way into talking before the group and will have plenty of time to adjust talking into the mic.

Regarding other duties, you can google it and you'll get everything that your required to do/not do!

I was told 14 months ago that I was to be the best man and to be honest for the next year it was eating me up inside thinking about it, but the truth is once you put the head down, start researching, get started on your speech etc...then you will feel the tension slip away.

Obviously I'll be nervous on the day and all that but I'm prepared and I think that's the main thing. I know my speech so well that my only problem will be on the presentation of it.

If your like me and not used to public speaking, then your best tactic is to prepare, practice, practice, and then practice some more. Its the only way.

I'll be giving my bestman report here, once the whole bloody thing is over in two weeks time. In it I'll hopfully be able to give some helpful advice to anyone looking on boards for help.

    Hope this helps dude.:D

The Best Man is also normally responsible for all the payments, as in the Bride and Groom will give you envelopes for the priest, band, dj etc and it'll be your responsibilty to make sure they get paid. You'll also be responsible for the cards/gifts that guests bring. Oh and the rings of course
