Hi, I've a little gerbil who need to go under the knife and was wondering if anyone could recommend a vet. Not all vets will do surgery on something so small.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Poor mite is suffering :(

Where abouts are you based OP?
Barbara O'Malley in Bray is an exotic animal specialist, she's probably your best bet if you're in the Leinster area.
What exactly does your critter need to have done?

the wee mite has a (very obvious) prolapsed anus, that is making him very miserable, he's swollen from his nose to his tail and hides away. we have another healthy little gerbil, so it's fairly obvious when you see them together that he's very sick. I had read online that in general vets won't do operations on small critters.
Am based in Dublin, so Bray would be good

I would back what the previous two posters have said...Bairbre OMalley is excellent. Shes based in Bray.

John Bainbridge is one of Dublin Zoos main vets..so id vouch for him. Ive heard very good reports about him. Malcolm Argyle, ive met just the once and i wasnt impressed but i wouldnt "judge a book by its cover". Theyre in business a long time. Im not knocking him as a vet as ive only met him the one time, but John ive heard alot about. They have 2 practices in Dundrum and Stillorgan. Id travel a bit more down the N11 to see Bairbre though..shes a gem!

Based on my own experience I'd recommend Bairbre aswell. She was wonderful with my two ferrets and she is always who'd I'd recommend first. I've also heard good things about John Bainbridge, a few people suggested him to me when I was looking but I've never dealt with him myself.

Sounds like you have two very good recommendations there, OP.

Was just going to suggest trying Sandymount Vet Clinic (number in the golden pages). We use them and they operated on our dwarf rabbit when she was young so they might also do gerbils?

    Hi all,
Many thanks for all the recommendations. I went to Barbara this morn and a nicer vet you couldn't find. She relly knows her stuff with little critters. Would totally recommend her to anyone with an under the weather pet! :)
