Premium Channels Gone - UPC

I've had about enough of NTL / UPC, I went to watch sky sports this evening and the channels were unavailable. I called the helpdesk, took 25 minutes to get through to someone, only to be told that yes, they were upgrading their viewer cards, and anyone who had not yet received their card would be unable to view their premium services. I asked the girl when I could expect to receive my new card, she said late this week or early next week. I asked her if it would make more sense to send the cards out prior to cutting users off, and she said "yep, it was done arseways all right".

My question is, does this interruption in service warrant me being able to get out of my contract (have only a short time left anyway, but this is the last straw for me)

theyve actually done that? well aware the new cards still aren't rolled out properly yet, yet switched at the start of a soccer season to snub the dodgy box users?!

    thats cold.

I read that sky warned upc that they needed to have the encryption up and running by the 18th or they would take all sky sports and movies away from them.

UPC have been taking a lot of flak for this, Sky are really pulling the strings?

funny if true as peeps are suggesting to "boycott UPC, go SKY TV!"

Just having a look at the small print there

We will not be liable for any delay or
failure to provide the Services, including access to emergency services, or any
interruption or degradation in Services, or any loss of data that is caused by any of the
    following:
    (i) Any act or omission of an underlying carrier, service provider, vendor or other third
    party, or equipment, network or facility failure;

Looks like they have me over a barrell. Kinda ironic that the ad at the end of this page is for NTL HD!

contact them again and ask for the card to be sent out via courier and you should have it within 2 days

Remember just because something is in a contract, doesn't make it so. What they are saying here is that you can't sue them for not delivering a service. It doesn't say anything about you having to pay for service they aren't delivering or the lack of delivery of service invalidating your contract.

Go google your rights under the Sale of goods and services act.

Why only Ireland? Nearly all of UK cable is still on Nagra 1!

I asked the girl and she said they would knock any outage period off the bill. I'll beleive it when I see it, I'm sure it'll be another 5 calls to their "customer service" desk to get credited. Roll on December, contract is up!

Very few customers were actually affected by this change over and the majority of customers with these premium channels have already been upgraded to the new securer cards....as with all large companies there is unfortunately some that slip through but these are normally sorted quickly.....You should ring up again and aske for a courier to be issued with the card.....This is normally never an issue
