    Hi everyone,

As you can see from the title i am looking for car insurance - i'm a 24 year old female on my first learner permit. Just got a Toyota Yaris 05 today so have been getting some online quotes from the various companies but they are REALLY high. What kind of price should i expect because the quotes i'm getting are over a grand - i never thought they would be that much. Can anyone who was in a similar situation give me a recommendation for an insurance company?

    Thanks:)

A grand seems about right for you..im 19,male and im paying 1800 on named insurance(would have been 2500 if i wanted to go it alone)

Tbh i wouldnt bother with online quotes..the best thing to do is either ring a few brokers and get competitive quotes orelse ring up quinn direct to see what they can do for ya..

If you were a year older, you would be in a better age group because people under 25 are in the most insurance risky demographic.

Damn i was thinking that alright!! Ya the best thing would be to ring them alright. If only i was 25......have to wait another 9 months! Thanks! I just had this mad idea that i'd only be paying something like 700....how wrong i was....:(

Hi - sorry I made a mistake with the name it's RSA ladygold - RSA standing for Royal Sun Alliance. Sounds good enough - some of the online quotes have been about 1200/1300!

I got mine from Insure.ie they were 40% cheaper than the nearest internet quote they e-mailed back in about 10 minutes with a far better quote than the on-line one.. I am still getting spam from some of the others offering better quotes and if I'm interested give them a call... They missed the boat though :D The nearest telephone quote was from O' Leary insurances in Cork but was still 10% more than Insure.ie... Quinn Direct  they were nearly 50% more expensive... so shop around on internet and the phone for a an hour or two to find the best deal;)

Thanks Sunjammer! Ya i've checked Quinn Direct online and they are giving a crazy price - i think it's 1200 or something! This RSA one is the best i've come across online. My dad said he might drop into them in South Mall today and see if they can do any better! Just got a quote there from First Ireland for 800 tpft - not bad either i suppose

You really are best to ring around. I've always found quotes online to be much more expensive than ones I've been given over the phone. It's going to be really expensive anyway because it's your own car and because of the permit. It's just unfortunate really but at least the prices will be slashed when you pass your test. I was quoted 1800 on my own car the day before I passed my test and got insurance for 580 the day after.

    Hi
I got my 1st car last month and am also on provisional. I priced about 20 places on phone and websites and quotes ranged from 2200 to less than 500 so my advice would be to use the internet broker ones - insure.ie was my best quote.
Good luck and let us know how you get on!

yeah definately ring the companies rather than internet. They usually have a discount purse each month of around 10% that they can give out if they have any left, I know coz I work in one of the call-centres (in IT so I can't say how much you should be paying, sorry) ;)

Or if you like I can get one of the guys on the floor to give you a call, will save you the cost of the call and I know they need the sales!!!!

I started driving almost 2 years ago and insurance for me, a 24 yo female on a provisional was €960 fully comp on a 1L Yaris. Mine dropped drastically when I passed my test, so bear that in mind. I was insured initially with Quinn as they were one of the few to quote me under €1k but moved to RSA after passing my test.

Hi thanks for all the replies! I got a quote from McCarthy Insurance group here in cork for 869 fully comp - that's the best I got and tried quite a few so think I might go with that. My dad went to Quinn direct for me today and they quoted him 1800! Crazy! Anyway thanks again!:)
