Are the Panasonic DMREX/DMREZ series DVD recorders compatable with MPEG 4 and Irish EPG standards ?

Dont think so. Be careful when you see Mpeg4 as in this case I thinks it refers to the capability to play Divx files rather than decode MPEG4 H264 digital television. The price normally gives it away as that combo goes.

I posted a list of DVD/DTT combos that are mpeg4 compatiable some time back if you search this forum. Not the ideal investment as they are expensive and a bit restrictive for 4 channels given they've only dvb-t tuners in em.

and a bit restrictive for 4 channels given they've only dvb-t tuners in em.

But those of us living in NI (or otherwise within range of UK DTT) would have more than four channels :)

I cant (AFaIK) actually get Irish DTT at the moment but if I do get a DTT enabled DVD-R I want a fairly future proof one. The other option is to buy a dedicated STB for my existing (Analouge) DVD-R admitidely cheaper but I could do without the extra box/cabling/switching complications (Oh and Im hoping a digital one would allow recordings to be scheduled via the EPG)

Are EPG's (and digital recorders) smart enough to be updated (PDC-esque) when programme schedules change and do any broadcasters actually implement this ?

    DVD only recorders are antique.
    HDD or HDD + DVD.

Most of the panasonic range have either HDD and/or VHS (even more antique but can be handy) as well as DVD

Found a website with manuals for Panasonic DVD recorders but Im still having trouble figuring out which ones (if any) can recieve MPEG4

Most of their models (suffix "EB") seem to have a "UK version" some/all of which have no VHF tuner (probably no H264 capability either)

Some of the non-EB suffixed ones have "DVB" tuners but dont state whether they do MPEG4 Some mention "DVB (Country)" the countries being Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, and Spain (IIRC France use MPEG4 but only on subscription channels ???)

Anyone else have any ideas. I was hoping that since Panasonic do a lot of MPEG4 capable TV's their DVD recorders might have it too ???

Emailed tech support and got the following
In response, our current range of DVD recorder should not be able to receive MPEG4/H264 DTT and VHF analogue transmissions
