I have a quick question.......My friend just got some pluming work done....dishwasher and washing machine installed and a sink connected.
When paying him he charged for a day and a halfs work. She didnt agree with his definition of a day.
He didnt arrive til midday and was gone by 5pm. Apparently according to the plumber that 5 hrs classes as a full days work at €200 a day!!!
He also charged almost another €200 for parts(he said that the nuts and bolts that came with the appliances werent good enough and he needed to get more) He has no receipt for any parts either.
Bear in mind that the connections for both machine were there and it was only new ones she was getting installed.
He is coming back tomorrow and she hadnt enough money to pay him the total amount he wanted.

I have advised her to not pay til she has seen the receipt for parts.

so my question.....are 5hr days the norm for plumbers?
And how does someone come up with what to charge for...'a bit of piping he had in the van'

    Thanks

Sadly an agreed price before the work started would have put a halt to this problem.

Interesting. Are you saying its costing 450 in total!

On both sides there is wrongs. She should have got a quote before the work started and he should have given one. Usually a couple of quotes will help compare. Your right he is taking the p1ss on parts but having said that he had to spend half a day sourching the correct parts I would say. I am guessing she prob has a bowl and a half sink as the parts for that never work. If all the connections for the dishwasher are there I would say she is right to complain.

Seen as though you started tell him that you had a second plumber quote on the job last night and he quotes 150. Ask if if wants paying that much you want propper receipts detailing the work.

Really she should have gotten quotes, The recession should teach us that much!
