Second round interview

    Hi guys,

    I have a 2nd round interview with my would be manager and the general manager of a hotel for a sales position next week.

    Does anyone have any tips as I have never done a proper second round interview before? Are the same questions asked again?

    wow thats a coincidence.... I just logged on to ask the same thing...

    I'm down to last 4 for a job I really want.....

    What questions may they ask?

    Also, what questions can I ask... from previous interviews I know all about the company's plans for expansion, the role itself, the team I'd be working with, staff training and development etc.... what else can I ask?!!

    Generally with second round interviews the company likes you and your experience to date so its now time to sell yourself even more in terms of your past acheivements.

    The interview will be about how you will fit into the team,your delegation skills etc.

    Particularly with sales jobs its very important to have prepared past acheivments and to really elaborate on how you have generated revenue and maybe think of a few ways in which you could improve revenue for the potential new employer.

    In short,it will be similar to the first round,just more in depth.

    If you've been provided with a JobSpec you will already have a list of the competencies that are required to be successful in the role.
    If you don't have a jobspec, write one!

    All you need to do now is prepare two examples for every competency and be ready to explain each using before, during and after. Or I prefer;
    Situation: What was happening
    Behaviour: What did you do to change it
    Outcome: How did your actions positively change the situation
    e.g.
    Competency = Delegation of tasks
    Situation: Prior to my joining the department each manager was responsible for various projects and was extremely hands on, jack of all trades, master of none
    Behaviour: I ascertained which staff members had specific strengths in certain areas and targeted them specifically with the delivery of these tasks within pre agreed timeframes
    Outcome: Happier staff with more responsibility, more time to drive projects forwards and achieving quicker delivery..

    Etc.

    Know the competencies required (jobspec provided or that you write)
    Prepare two examples for each
    Situation
    Behaviour
    Outcome

    Tell the interviewer!

    This is going on experience in a different industry, but some of it might still apply.

    Was the General Manager there for the first interview? If not, then the first interview was probably more of a vetting process, and they might go over the same questions again.

    In a second interview, it's possible they will bring up specific details about the package. They might ask what salary you are looking for, so have a figure in mind. Also think about asking about any pension contributions, health cover etc - but only if prompted. Don't bring any of that up if they don't.

    Ask how your performance will be assessed - what will the KPIs be etc.

    You might also ask what the career progression is like - what direction they would see you going in x amount of years.
