How likely are you to be successful in transfering from one coarse to another?

Do you know anyone who has done it?

Well, once you meet matriculation requirements and points, and there is space available in the new course, then there isn't usually that much of a problem, but it depends on the department really. A friend of mine transfered from TP to Maths, but they're pretty much the same thing...

I did it. Loads of people do. However, places are on a first come first served basis (I think, check this) - for the larger courses (Science, Engineering etc.) they are usually very accommodating with number - I was the 187th to join the class to join if I recall correctly!

When you get details about your tutor, get in contact with them and meet them in Freshers' Week. The deadline is something like the end of the second week of term, which your tutor will advise you about. Further information will be forthcoming from those fellows in the Students' Union. Education Officer is available at education@tcdsu.org at 01-6468439.

A friend of mine transfered to science from TP after christmas, no hassles, he just had to play catch up for a term. I think so long as the coarses are some what related they won't really mind too much and if there is space.

It's possible, so meet your tutor as I said. There may be someone who drops out or wants to transfer to another course themselves.

There is a second deadline btw of the 1st week back in JAnuary (could be incorrect under new academic year - check this) to transfer in, so if there's no space under the first deadline you can try to get in by the second deadline.

    Best of luck with it.

The Senior Tutor's Office has a handy FAQ on the issue of course-changing here: http://www.tcd.ie/Senior_Tutor/faq/#Q5.

I echo what Donal said; go to the SU and see the Education Officer Ashley. He will guide you through the whole process.

It's not a particularly scary one; tutors are very familiar with it and it's fairly routine in the first couple of weeks of term

I have a slightly different question, is it possible to transfer into 2nd year of a course in Trinity when you've finished 1st year of the same course in another college?

    Ahhh a much better plan.

In all seriousness though changing course isn't too much of a hassle, the earlier the better though. The more related the courses are the easier the transfer will be (you will be less behind and it will be easier for the department to understand you wanting to change)

If you have the points for the course you want to transfer to and they haven't over filled the course you should be ok. (this year in science; chemistry and biology were over loaded so it was difficult to change into them but very easy to change out of it)

Like the old heads are saying though get in touch with Ashley education@tcdsu.org, he will be able to help you sort it.

In fact this year's Education Officer transferred into 2nd year TP here having done 1st year TP in UCD, combining nearly everything mentioned in this thread into one course transfer.

You should have no problems then! It would also be great as you could get some great RCSI recommendations for CV's etc

Ye I know it's abit ridiculous but I really dont want to do bus. If i have to stick it out I will but I'd WAY prefer Near Eastern and Jewish studies with Russian... Made a bit of a mess of my CAO... My own Fault ofcourse
