I see that Deben now sells lithium polymer battery packs for lamping, they are about 1/3 the weight of the sealed lead acid batteries for the same performance , anyone using one of these? I know that Li-Po batteries only kast around 2-3 years and they need a special charger but apart from that they would be much better for weight and carrying.

They'd be Lithium Ion CJ :)

I was going to invest but

No one could answer me how long one would last with my lamp (which is always on), despite grand claims of them lasting "all night long".

Riiiight, they're 10 amp like. so I figure those claims are bunkum.

Second thing which put me off is I have been recounted an episode where one went on fire while charging. Fire brigade etc were called in, the saving grace is the fire happened right beside a plastic water pipe feeding a sink in the garage I believe and when that melted it helped control the situation.

I'm passing on the LI batteries.

a really cheap and light :Doption is to use a DD cell mag light you will see a fox clearly a 150yds and eye shine well beyond that get one with the led bulb and the batteries last for a month while using it every night almost no recharging, 2new batteries and away you go

Nope the one I am talking about is the Li-Polymer not the Li-ion;)
I know about the fire danger but if they are recharged correctly in a battery sack then they are safe enough.
I am curious because they are so light, I have some experience with them after all they are in a lot of mobiles now and also some RC equipment.
Its just the thought of lugging a big, bulky, heavy lump of lead around is a bit of a PITA.
