You don't see to create a Broadband Connetion in Vista, in fact - delete them (WIN + R > Type "ncpa.cpl" > OK). You do the following:

Start Menu > Connect To > Changed "Show All" to "Show Wireless" (at the top) > Select your wireless network > Connect > Enter your Wireless Security Key > Connect > Select Home (it's ok if this doesn't show up) > Close.

    Vista-Wireless6.gif

    Vista-Wireless5.gif

    Vista-Wireless8.gif

    Vista-Wireless7.gif

In Leopard it's just as easy, do the following:

Click the Aiport Icon (see below) > Select your wireless network > Enter your Wireless Security Key (Password) > OK.

actully the password isnt for wireless, its for broadband itself, i can connect to wireless but not the broadband... im going to try what you did now

edit: i remember trying that before, it doesnt work, my router isnt passkey protected, its the broadband connection itself which is protected

like my broadband username "XXX" pass "XXX" eircom set it up like that, and my vista cant connect either by the method you showed.

In that case, you have your modem + router setup incorrectly. The Eircom router has it's username and password setup on the router and connects automatically. You must have your Belkin Wireless router setup on PPPoE which is incorrect.

Change this to Automatic Configuration DHCP and this way it will just be a wireless host and not your modem (thats the Netopia's job). Just make sure that the router IP address and DHCP starts with 192.168.2.1 and not 192.168.1.1 (you may get conflicts with the Netopia).

PS: You should really secure your wireless with WPA-PSK, it's not safe to have an Open Network.

They all have them settings, the screenshots above shows an example of what will come up (it's from a similar router interface).

Logging onto the Netopia isn't necessary, you need to log into your Belkins router interface.

Most likely it's Gateway addres is http://192.168.2.1 and you need to change the Connection Type to DHCP (Dynamic)

Great. Also, secure your wireless network as well with WPA-PSK.

    Wireless > Wi-Fi Protected Setup

i forgot to do this, i'll do it now, but i thought it should have worked without this on mac osx but it doesnt, still the same thing it connects to bliken but not eircom, and now i cant open the bliken page either for some reason lol

You may also need to turn of the Belkin firewall since their is one on the Netopia already.

Thats true about the wireless security but in the long run, it's needed.

In Windows, you need to check the Belkin Gateway, do this:

WIN + R > Type "cmd" and press OK > Type "ipconfig" and press Enter > This will give your connection information, copy and paste it here.

Which Eircom router are you using? The model number is underneath it, it should be 3347 or 2247.

Have you got that hard wired into your computer? Because according to your PC, it's connected.

You should just connect to the other computer over the network, it should be setup like below (this is the best way for the network).

PS: Delete those Broadband Connections in Windows Vista (Windows Key + R > Type "ncpa.cpl" and Press Ok > Delete everything possible (except whats under LAN or High Speed Internet).

    10442.jpg

Netopia setup in normal mode PPPoE (Gateway 192.168.1.254 / DHCP from 192.168.1.1-253)
    ¦
Into WAN / Internet Port of
    ¦
Belkin Wireless Router with Dynamic IP (Gateway 192.168.2.1 / DHCP from 192.168.2.2-254)

Firewall turned on with the Netopia / off with the Belkin.

Connecting wirelessly from Belkin to laptop / with LAN from Belkin to the second PC

Two computers now connection through the Belkin router to communicate.

doesnt that mean i have to keep my pc turned on all the time?

Of course not, nothing I advised suggest that. This setup means...

Your getting the best speeds and use from your Belkin router.

Your connected to your other computer automatically and Windows will detect that.

You will be connected wireless and via a secured network so nobody can access it.

You'll have a sophisticated setup with the easy option of adding any network device easily.

ok well thanks i'll try it later, but for now, i still cant get onto the bliken page to secure the network, or connect to the internet from my mac osx

Firstly, connect directly to the Belkin with the LAN cable and hard reset it back to defaults (it defaults to Dynamic). Then configure the wireless.

This is just temporary so you can configure your Belkin router. It doesn't matter that it won't be 'online'.
