am having a medical in the morining and the nurse mentioned on the phone I could have a smear test. just wondering do i need one? I have never had "full proper sex". tried once or twice with an ex as in he was inside me for a few seconds/minute but I found it too painful and the other time felt really anxious so we stopped. i.e he never came inside me. sorry if this is TMI. I know the whole sex thing is another issue I need to deal with myself.

anyway my question is do i need to have a smear test as although I have "been penetrated" nothing after it happened. I know I sound pthetic but am too embarrassed to ask anyone/doctor. I'm not young (in my 20's). I have had oral sex if this affects anything?

thanks for your help and sorry iif teh questions seems stupid. have not posted in tll as I want to be unregistered.

TBH you really should speak to a doctor or nurse about this, they will give you the best advice possible.

You need one really if you are of reproductive age.

Even Nuns need them, it doesn't matter whether you have had sex or not.

It's no harm to get one anyway, if you're having a complete medical you might as well!

The recommendation is from 25 years old + regardless of whether you're sexually active.

Definitely mention this to the doctor, a smear test is kinda invasive (but bearable!) and if you have it (which I think you should!) then warning them you're a bit nervous will help them help you through it.

hi - op here. thanks a million for all your help. I know it was a pretty pathetic question but I heard you had them if you were sexually active. you all helped to put my mind at ease!! thanks

HPV is the virus responsible. its is the cause its spread via contact. so ejacuation is not relevant and yes you should get a smear. this is important because the virus can eventually lead to cervical cancer in some women and smear testing can detect this early enough to prevent this. you might consider getting the hpv vaccine if you are still young - ask the doctor when at your medical for more info.

LOTS of info here - i hope its not so much to be confusing!!!

Perhaps you might to use this opportunity to ask the doctor about your tenseness during sex.

Having the smear is a good idea, regardless of whether you're having penetrative sex or not. Just relax and get it done.
