    Hi All,

My sister is getting married hopefully in 2011, she lives in England and will be home in two weeks so wants to go look at a few venues when she is over. Seeing as she is organising it from over there I will be helping as much as I can!!

She is going to look at Breaffy House, Mount Falcon, was thinking of Mulranny but most of the guests will be coming from Ballina area so might be a bit too far. So about half hour from Ballina, any ideas?

    Thanks!

Pontoon Hotel... was at a wedding there a few weeks ago... scenery was out of this world...staff were very nice... food was middle of the road.

Thanks Locha, we actually live 5 minute drive from there so majority of local weddings have been there so its the one place my sister will not consider! Personally I think its a fab place but I understand she wants somewhere different.

    Thanks for your suggestion though!:)

    Hi

The last wedding I attended was in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport for a cousins wedding. It is a beautiful venue, staff are very helpful with the planning (she came back from the USA to get married back here).

In terms of presentation the function room is lovely and the food is delicious. It is a very popular wedding venue in Mayo and in my area a lot of people have chosen it as their venue! Which means some people have been invited for 4 or 5 weddings but I've never heard complaints!

I have been to about 10 weddings in the Castlecourt and can honestly say I havent been to a bad one yet. They have weddings down to a tee there and the food and service is always brilliant.

If you want to push the boat out I also recommend Knockranny House Hotel. Lovely hotel with beautiful food.

Mulranny is also a class spot with unreal scenery and great food. It is only 15 minutes further than Westport from Ballina.

I havent heard any good reports on Breaffy to be honest.

Majority of the locations have been touched base on.

One thing to bear in mind with Lisloughrey is you have the take over the whole place incl rooms for the weekend. Great location tho!!

it is the same situation with mount falcon but as most of the guests are within 10 mins that is out.

she is leaning towards Breaffy now, my friend had reception there 2 years ago and loved it. the grounds are fab and the staff are lovely.

anyone any other feedback on breaffy??

    Thanks for all the replies.

I wouldn't be a fan of Breaffy at all, sorry! We attended a wedding there in Feb and the food and service was horrific, although the hotel itself was decorated very nicely and has lovely areas for pictures.

What about Diamond Coast in Enniscrone? Castlecourt, Hotel Westport are lovely also. I'm a fan of Mount Falcon but the taking the place over bit is a bummer!

We got married in Breaffy earlier this year and have no complaints. The food and service were excellent. The wedding co-ordinator (Maureen, I think) is a dote and really helpful, as was the manager on the day. I repeatedly chopped and changed the number of reserved rooms and even bargained them down and it was no problem. One of the staff even recommended me to get guests to book online instead of paying more for reserved rooms (a lot of my friends got €99 deals on 2 nights). When I expressed reservations about one of the dishes when we went for our tasting menu, it was fixed.

Like some others, I had heard a few negative stories, but I let them know I was aware of this and they seemed to go all out to make everything perfect.

That's great idea actually to let a hotel know if you have heard horror stores and then they will go all out to ensure that yours will be perfect! Like the thinking!

    Hi all!

My fiance and I are kind of in the same boat as here. We are getting married just outside of Ballina and I was hoping for some feedback in relation to a few places, or some new unique options to hold a reception if anyone has any? We've looked at Mount Falcon and Great National of Ballina and those are our first two choices with a third being the Twin Trees Hotel. We looked and have gone with a solid no for Belleek Castle, Ice Hotel, Great Manor Ballina. Can anyone offer other suggestions. Westport or anything along that vein is too far, but Enniscrone would be an option if anyone has feedback in relation to the Diamond Hotel or Ocean Sands?

We were put off of Belleek Castle because of the customer service - should we take a second glance?

We are looking for unique and customer service orientated as the most beautiful reception venue can be ruined by crap service!

We have Diamond Coast booked for this Christmas and Oh My God is there wedding coordinator the best woman on the planet haha.. we were in a toss up between there and another hotel and she sold us there! The prices are super reasonable for what you get, the service is second to none! Like they are going above and beyond what we expected! I've heard nothing but good reviews about there.. the food is amazing, we went up one Sunday for carvery lunch (just carvery like) and I swear if I was served the beef that I got that day on my own wedding day I'd be thrilled and I'm not even a big fan of beef! If you want to pm me if you have any specific questions work away :-) the only reason we didn't look at the ocean sands was because we had been to the afters of a wedding there and the bar in the reception room is pretty small... That's literally the only reason we didn't look at there! I haven't been to a full wedding there but was looking at packages as my sis is looking for a place for 2018 and their packages are very good too!

Personally I wouldnt go near Great National, we had dinner there after my grandmothers funeral. The room was freezing, food was cold, service was terrible. Have never been to a wedding MF but when we viewed it for my sisters wedding I didnt like the layout of the room and the bar is teeny.

Best food and service I have had a recent weddings were in Broadhaven in Belmullet and Diamond Coast in Enniscrone. Ocean Sands is pretty good too.

Really surprised to hear you weren't happy with the customer service in Belleek! We got married there in 2014. Had to change venues at relative short notice as our original venue closed down. Maya who we dealt with was amazing. The organisation and service was 5 star and I can't say enough good things about the staff there, the food and the atmosphere! Definitely worth a second look!

I agree with annoyedgal. I got married in Belleek in late 2015 and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Maya the wedding coordinator is brilliant. In particular, she was incredible on the day and made the whole thing extremely stress-free. The food is amazing. We had lots of comments that it was the best food that guests had ever had at a wedding. Location is fab.

I did hear that the customer service was a bit hit and miss about 10 years ago but there is certainly no issue with it now. Really recommend the venue.
