So received an email today saying certain books where overdue, despite having not received any notification that they were up for renewal. The email listed two books, however upon checking my account I discovered that all my books were in fact over due. Added to this, you can no longer make online stacks requests.

    Talk about your retrograde upgrades.

Email received recently from the library:
...We hope to have ASR available by 17 August.

I guess they haven't got it working just quite yet...

I should say, they also couldn't renew any of my stacks books once they were over due. I'd have to return them, call back to get the fines waived, and then request them again.

They told me I had overdue books, but I just renewed them as normal and it worked out fine.

Thanks for flagging this. The new website warned me of two books going overdue last week, but I didn't receive anything for the same books this week, they would have gone overdue today.

I can fix this, with CSS!

I renewed three books in the Berkley last week, and got emails today telling me all three books are overdue

There are some teething problems with the new Library Management System and the Library website. If you are having trouble with your Library account then please bring it to the attention of the Duty Librarian - 01-896 1127.

We are hoping that automatic stacks requests - that is ordering books online from Stacks or Santry - will be up and running by Monday. In the meantime you will need to fill out a call-slip in the Library to send for these books.

The "gentle reminder" email that you get when your books are coming up to their due date is a courtesy, and nothing more. If for any reason it is not sent out, it doesn't change the fact that it is up to you to keep track of your loans and when they're due back, and you will be liable for fines if they're returned late.

+1 to this. I renewed mine on the 12th/13th and got an email this morning saying that they were due back yesterday!

If you're sure that they're not LEN books with a yellow dot or S-LEN books(you can only borrow these on a weekly basis) then it could be another glitch.

Give us a call and let us know if that's the case.

I replied to the email. Though last time I did that, I was allowed rack up superfines to the tune of €25 before somebody had the courtesy to reply (and I had sent several emails).

From the overdue email - "If you have any queries, please contact the staff in the Reading Room from which the books were borrowed."

In other words, you need to contact the Reading Room counter directly - pick up the phone and call. Hope this clears it up for you.

I've heard this line trotted out before, and while technically correct, not having to deal with overdue books makes things more convenient for everyone involved. It isn't a simply case of you guys doing us a favour, its mutually benefiting.

Blasted website won't let me log on to renew my books. What was so wrong with the old, functional one that needed updating?

Make sure that you use the same College Username and College Network Login Password that you would use to access the TCD network - more details about passwords here - http://isservices.tcd.ie/accounts/passwords.php .

Again, if you're still having problems, contact the Duty Librarian - 01-896 1127

The "old, functional" system was very old and tired and not so functional when too many people tried to access it at any one time - hence the need for a new one. We'll all get used to it eventually!
