Some students from Ottawa wrote a paper entitled "Infectious Diseases Modeling Research Progress." that asks whether humanity could survive an actual zombie invasion.

Only chance we have "hit them hard, hit them often".

    Awesome

So it seems .... this hiding and hunting business is pointless. Once Z day is upon us we need to organise quickly and strike.

so just keep attacking and dont stop?

i dont see humanity lasting very long if this is our strategy!!

A Canadian mathematician, who specialises in modelling the spread of infectious diseases, has turned his attention to the potential spread of zombies:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/08/18/zombie_plague_paper/

his concluion, is to hit them hard and fast once they appear:
An outbreak of zombies infecting humans is likely to be disastrous, unless extremely aggressive tactics are employed against the undead... In summary, a zombie outbreak is likely to lead to the collapse of civilisation, unless it is dealt with quickly... the most effective way to contain the rise of the undead is to hit hard and hit often... Only sufficiently frequent attacks, with increasing force, will result in eradication, assuming the available resources can be mustered in time.

I did an earlier post on this:
    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055651531

Human-zombie coexistence is impossible... Since all eigenvalues of the doomsday equilibrium are negative, it is asymptotically stable. It follows that, in a short outbreak, zombies will likely infect everyone.

I hope we don't get an outbreak, perhaps from mutated Zombie Ant Fungus or Maggots. Since both of these destroy the brain, no recovery for infected people is possible. Only innoculation of healthy people.

Thus we will be a dwindling minority like the fungus infected Chicken Frogs:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leptodactylus_fallax
The fungal disease chytridiomycosis has also had a dramatic effect on the population

Though there may be some hope

Actually ... I think it's a great idea, assuming a large enough force of survivors can be gathered together.

As you know, the Z's biggest advantage is when they come together a mass horde. One on one, zombies are nothing and we can take them down with a blow to the head.

A mass full frontal attack of roughly even numbers should result in devastation for the z's.

Of course, with their stupidity they could lured into an area where an ambush by a lesser number of surivivors could result in a significant victory over the horde.

That's not even taking into account what could be done with trained soldiers.

The trick is to organise a strike before the z infestation becomes too large.

People, we're through the looking glass here.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8206280.stm
In their scientific paper, the authors conclude that humanity's only hope is to "hit them [the undead] hard and hit them often".

They added: "It's imperative that zombies are dealt with quickly or else... we are all in a great deal of trouble."

Surely you don't have to be a scientist to know to hit them and hit them hard to survive?

Maybe there's two topics here, zombie survival and the dumbing down of the education system.

Can we rename this thread? Let the world (of boards) know that science takes us seriously now! The BBC said so!

There is a lot of logic to that report.

With every turned human they take from our strength and add it to their own.
If we die in other ways then we still loose strength.

We can't turn them back (usually) and have no way to even out that balance.

The only hope is to hit them very hard at the start.
If that fails or is spread is too wide to contain then its down to something like the Redekker plan and god help those not in a safe zone.

In the light of the recent Canadian study, I would like to express my gratitude to all members of the Zombie Survival forum for keeping this agenda on the table and doing their utmost to ensure that the human race stands the best chance of survival through a zombie infestation possible.

Perhaps the rest of the world will now pay more heed to the need for readiness. I myself have been guilty of negligence when it comes to this most urgent of subjects.

    No More.

    Thank you.

    You are all heros.

    Sorry to hijack the thread:o...

Ladies and Gentlemen and associated creatures, I believe Scumlord has accidently stumbled across, what I believe is, the best alternitive name to the Zombie Surival Forum. While I do believe Zombie Surival should remain, I for one would (if forced to) welcome our Welcome to the apocalypse overlord, forum, thing.....

    Now back to normal transmission

Well this, hard and fast tatic is usually being employed against slow zombies, right?
There was some study done (But I can't find it, so you'll have to take my word for it) that if the zombies were fast, We're screwed, boned, fcuked, whatever you want to call it... but yeah, there's no way we'd win:eek::(
