So I got accepted for the advanced level entry to Electrical Services Engineering, has anyone here done this course and if so how did you find it. I am tempted to get my notes out again but I am unsure what was covered in 1 year of this course.

This course seems to be comprised mainly of electricians that have advanced entry so they can complete it in just 2 years.

I met a colleague many years ago that had just completed this course and got a good job from it. I then became interested in doing this course too so I looked into it and made the effort to meet students doing the course as well as talking to some of the staff. I selected a different course in the end. People that completed this course got good jobs in the past when the construction industry was booming.

It teaches you how to design all of the electrical services for a building such as power distribution, fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, lighting design, CAD, cable selection and sizing etc. The maths is quite basic and electronics dont really feature at all. PLCs are covered to a basic level.

It is a good course to do but having talked to many years final year students from this course in May they told me that none of them had been able to secure a job from it. Perhaps some of them have work now.
I am unsure what was covered in 1 year of this course.
I would guess that you are an electrician, so you will not have missed much. It is aimed at people that have no electrical experience whatsoever.

I am going into this course, DT 010 in September, adanced entry into the second year as I just completed my phase 6 in Kevin Street 2 months ago.

Looking on the DIT website, the main difference between year 1 and 2 is that CAD is dropped in year 2. I was told that I needed CAD experience to enter year 2 and I have none but I was accepted anyway.

I was wondering if anyone knows or has the 09/10 time table for the course, I saw it posted around the college when I was in there a few months ago. I know its 27 hours a week and I'm trying to fit my job around it somehow. Thanks.

I am going in to 3rd year in this course! i started in first year, as i am not a sparkie! in first we done CAD which is a big part of the course, you will only do cad for the 1st semister as this gives you time to focus on your project! first year was very basic, just looking at small stuff, like dc single phase AC theory, basic design around cables, emergency lighting, and power distrotion around the country. in second year its mor around motors, 3 phase power, emergency lighting, lighting fire alarm, and doing the project! its a handy enuf course if you do the work and assignments! but can bite you if you start slacking
