    Hi there,

I am flying to france in a few weeks and wish to hire a car that will be able to take a bike. I have gone through the motions to book the car and am happy that an Opel Zafira that has been offered as an intermediate class car will have enough room to take me, my hubby, the luggage and the cursed bike!! Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a list available of the possible alternatives that I might be given. I would be afraid that the "or similar" vehicle that is mentioned on the site might mean 'not big enough for the bike'. Is there any way I can be sure that I get the car I book?
    What do you think?
    thanks

    Hi Juliet !

The Zafira or similar should be fine to take a bike and *normally* "or similar" means that others will also. In France you normally attach the bike to the outside of the car. Your agency can confirm that you get the proper equipment.

Thanks a lot Ponster!! I have contacted a number of car hire agencies and none of them can provide a bike rack unfortunately, so we will have to carry the bike inside the car. However, I have checked with Hertz what similar cars could be offered and they all seem to be sufficiently big. So think it will all work out fine.. otherwise the husband will be cycling from the airport!!!

    thanks again!

I reckon that a van based car might be better for that job(carrying the bike). The Citroen Berlingo, or the Ford Tourneo Connect come to mind. :)
