Its the 3.25 race at York tomorrow, its a 4 horse race,
and two of the 4 horses are 200 - 1.

Are you pretty much guaranteed a return if you put money one of the 200-1 shots or does paddypower.com not pay out on 3rd places in a 4 horse race?

Think they only pay one place, as in 1st:

    Each Way Odds » 1/1 Places 1

4 horse race there is effectively no each way betting.

    2-4 runners, 1 place.
    5 runner race, 2 places.
    8 runner race, 3 places.
    16 runner handicap, 4 places.

The two horses in question Georgebernardshaw and Set Sail are 2 pace makers, commonly used by the O'Brien stable in order to make racing conditions more favourable for their first choice horse in the race, here it been Mastercraftsman.
And they wont be paying out on any places in a 4 horse race, just the winner.

    fair enough,
it just had me puzzled since they're accepting each way bets where in other 4 horse races the check box for each way wasnt available...

    They arent are they?
They would have been before Tartan Bearer was declared a non runner

Both horses are @ 330.0 on Betfair, with Place odds @ 12.5 and 20.0 respectively - so I'm assuming this would be paid on a second place finish, as the other 2 are @ 1.02 and 1.08 to place.

    Yes. 2 places.

5 horses were declared originally so 2 places is the standard.
Betfair don't change the place terms for nonrunners (theres a very good exchange-based reason for this).

By the way, its good practise to get into the habit of reading the 'rules' section on the right hand side of the Betfair screen whenever you are doing a bet. Understanding exactly what you are betting on is essential, and Betfair have some really quirky rules.

Same for The Tote, it's to do with placepots, jackpots etc..,
