Freesat to Panasonic HD TV with no coax input

    Hi all,
Just bought a panasonic HD TV, it comes with a built in Freesat tuner. i bought a quad LNB so that I could run a new coaxial cable to the TV from my existing sky satellite but discovered that the TV does not have a coax input, just HDMI, Scart or Antennae. Have been looking to see if there is a converter for Coax to Scart or HDMI but cant find one.

Any advice how I can add the free sat, want to keep my sky connection.
    thanks in advance.
    /S

Thats very odd, any panasonic set with a freesat tuner has a coax input.

Are you sure it has a freesat tuner? What is the exact model number on the box?

there is a coax input on my Panasonic (not freesat model)

RTFM :D. (i have always wanted to use that)
if you look at the manual it will probably show you on page 10 if its the g10

    Check the model number.
For the G10 series to have FreeSat it needs to end in "B" (eg TXP42G10B). B is the British model that supports FreeSat. If it ends in "L" (Irish model) then you are out of luck - no satellite tuner. Unsure about "E" (European model).

Freesat you say, are you sure that it does not have a DTT tuner instead.

If it has a DTT tuner it will not work with the satellite, it will use a normal aerial. But there is currently no DTT broadcast in Ireland (maybe there was a pilot for a while), and there probably won't be for at least a year or more.

Where did you get the tv? I doubt you would get one of these in Ireland without specifically ordering it (but I could be wrong).

Whether its Freesat, DTT or analogue, I cant imagine any TV without a co-ax input...Doesnt make sense

Yes, though the coax will need an F-Connector on it.

Surprised it doesn't have BOTH coax and antenna inputs...

I think we are gettin mixed up on this thread between coax and RF.

RF(antenna) is a what every tv has
What the OP means by coax is a connector with a screw type end for an F connector, which is used for a tv with a satellite tuner.

If the OP would respond with the model number we could sort this out right away I reckon

Sorry for the delay in getting back, have been on hols and the missus banned the laptop! The model is TXPS10B. It has a freesat tuner built in. Trust me there is no coax input on the back of the box. i went into two well known Electrical shops selling Panasonic and asked them for a solution. They could not solve it. At one stage I had 4 guys (they were v.quiet!) trying to come up with a workaround, none did! Still have not solved it.

TV was bought in Waters Electectrical in Monahan, got a fab deal on it, but I went to the irish stores selling the same box (TXPS10L) and it hasd the same connectors on the back, .

I agree totally, but check out the Panasonics TXP range and you have everything but Coax!

No Coax = Video Monitor. Not TV

Two Common types of Coax on TV sets
Belling lee = Normal terrestrial aerial (push on, no screw thread)
F-Type = Satellite LNB or Cable TV or US TV (screw on thread)

Some old sets or portables use RCA/Phono type, 3.5mm jack or even twin 300 Ohm ribbon on two terminals for the TV aerial input.

The TXP series seem to be Freeview Digital (some even have DVBt-2 MPEG4 & HD), not Freesat Digital.

Digital (of different types) can be via LNB+ Dish from Satellite, via Cable TV provider or from an Aerial.

Certain it's not a Freeview tuner?

The TXPXXS10B line does NOT have a satellite tuner, you should have got the G10 or G15 for satellite. I just got a G10B - that has the F-connector and a satellite tuner (with FreeSat EPG).

    Hi Folks,

New to the board and thread. I was wondering if anyone can confirm if the Panasonic TX-P42G10B will work with the proposed MPEG 4 digital system in Ireland or do I need to look and buying the Irish version?

    Cheers.

I don't think it will work with the proposed MPEG4 Irish system out of the box. The G10B version is the UK model for MPEG2 transmission.

I did come across an advert for a CAM module that claims to deal with MEPG4 transmissions - but cannot say whether this will really work in the G10B and Irish DTT.

the technical specs do say yhat it has a tv anatenna, however, this seems to be freeVIEW not freeSAT (see main picture where it has freeview in red, and where it says dvb-t)

I just read the op again, and this seems to make sence nnow, the tv antenna will work with a DTT (freeview) signal, and there is no mention of a freesat tuner in the tv (on pixmania), hence no coax input.

Thanks but I do not see anything to lead me to think this has freesat.

If you want a Panasonic which is guaranteed to work in Ireland, get the Irish version G10L.

Up until last Friday, the G10B would not scan the DTT channels. Since Friday, the DTT transmissions have been changed slightly, so that as of today, the G10B will also scan in the channels. However, nobody knows how long this will last, so if you buy a G10B tomorrow it may or may not work - you're taking a gamble. An MPEG4 cam is useless with this TV and is a waste of money.

Just checked and RTÉNL have reverted to the "advanced codec flag" so a G10B will not now scan the channels.

If you want a combined Freesat/DTT TV that is guaranteed to work, then get the LG LF7700 instead.

The TX P 51 G 10B has got either an aerial input (for Dtt tuner) or a satellite "F" type input for (freesat tuner) it's located at the back of the TV marked satellite and needs to be connected to a dish.Check out the Panny website and you can download the instruction manual.
