Click into Settings > General > About and tell me what version software you have.

Do you get an error when syncing?

Do songs sync ok? If so, click on your iPod in the right hand side then click the Apps tab and see what the settings are.

Yes. Get the latest version of the software by updating in iTunes.

    And the winner is.... :D

Yup, Ultimate Chin is absolutely right, apps acquired through the itunes store require at least OS version 2.0, but since we're now at OS version 3 there's no point in hunting down 2.0.

Yes. Get the latest version of the software by updating in iTunes.

Click on the iPod in iTunes and you can check for software updates. It'll cost about €10.

I had a problem upgrading my iPod Touch recently thought my cr*p broadband connection (which is okay at the moment). My iPod went into Restore mode and I couldn't get it out of it. There is a help menu to deal with the messages on the iTunes site.
Anyway, I had set up an admin user account and a new ordinary user account on my MacBook since the previous upgrade. When I tried to update the software from the admin account it worked fine and I could sync with my general account.

If this is not your problem, have a look at the help menu from Apple, sorry can't remember where. Try not to panic, it will sort itself out. Know how you feel though.

Plug the iPod in and choose "Check for available downloads" in the Store menu of iTunes.

If that doesn't do anything, click "iTunes store" in the right hand side of iTunes, click your e-mail address which is now showing on the right hand side and then choose "Purchase History". If the update isn't there then you haven't been charged.

You should be able to try again. You might want to Restore your iPod first (this will delete all the data stored on it) by clicking the Summary Tab.
