Hi, just asking this on here for the younger brother of my best mate.

The story is that he already did one year of a four year course before dropping out. He will be starting a different course in another Uni in September. He must now pay full fees am I right? Any idea how much they are and is he right in saying its just the one year he is required to pay full fees for.

If fees are introducted across the board, where will this leave him?

    Cheers

He'll get charged for the one year, I'd estimate somewhere between 5 and 8k, but should only need to pay registration fees after that for years 2,3 and 4.

Is he in a University? I've heard people are caught there but if you change to an I.T. people for the majority seem to get away with only paying registration.

The same position as everyone else, which is as of yet unclear. The free fees arrangement still stands for this year but will almost certainly be replaced by a loan scheme or graduate tax next year. When the government finally announces its plans they'll probably want this year's entrants to pay for years 2, 3, etc of their course. But there will be considerable opposition to this so they may have to back down. We'll have to wait and see.

So while your friend will probably only have to pay upfront fees for this year, he may find himself in debt along with everyone else for the remaining years.
