Can anyone recommend the best insurer for business-I am not looking for a broker-want to approach insurers myself.

anyone had any good/bad experiences? Who was the best value for you?

    Thanks!

FBD are a direct insurer i.e not a broker. They can cover a wide range of businesses. Check out http://www.fbd.ie/info/contact-us/locate-a-branch/ to find your nearest branch. Their very customer focussed so it's definately worth contacting them to see if they can help you out.

Don't forget not every Insurer deals directly with the public. What is your area of business and people might be able to advise better.

Any particular reason you fear/hate brokers?

Hiya- didn't say hated or feared brokers!! Just have asked 2 brokers for help with policy and they have not come back to me despite me telling them I need my policy to get my enterprise grant from my local county enterprise board! Everything in place - just no insurance and without it they won't release the funds - you'd think in these times people would grab the chance at new business? So decided prob best to approach insurance companies instead and needed a recommendation, asked family/friend and on here and so far fbd have best feedback...

We are a small cottage industry manufacturing clothes for ladies and children, also buying in some stock and selling online and at local indoor/street markets (no retail outlet). We are a partnership with no employees, have about £15k worth of stock/equipment to cover at our workshop (first floor in North Leitrim town).

any other help is much appreciated! Thanks

Yes, FBD (Sligo) would be a good place to start.

I've been with FBD for the last 4 years and found them great untill I tried to but in a claim. The claim was reported in January and it's still not resolved. I would not reccommend them to any body.

I have used a broker and got a better deal tahn I had form previous insurers - saved in the region of €150 so I will always use a broker. Also the broker i use looks after any claim and will deal with the Insurer on my behalf if I have a claim

That's a fair enough reason. It's always a shame when an industry is let down like that, particularly your own industry. I reckon they couldn't find a quote and didn't bother ringing you back. Without naming was it a large or small broker?

On the other issue of claims you will always find someone with a complaint about every company.

    Best of luck.

One was a local broker, another was one in dublin-so I guess both big and small! Was in touch with fbd today and got a quote...
