I doubt its a "boost sensor". Someone please correct if im wrong but im not aware of anything called that.

What you probably mean is this

    MAF sensor

    MAP sensor

Im not sure which one the pajero has but id assume its the Map sensor as that is the more modern approach.

They both do the same thing in different ways. With different pros and cons

Pajero has a boost sensor, it's near the intercooler and AFAIK it controls the fuelling.

thanks colm well thats what this guy said to me today after getting 4 seperate diagnostics done including main dealerships and all said 14 to 1500 euro for fuel pump was actually supposed to get it started this morn lol but said id check it out so this guy seems to think that its the boost sensor

Did this man actually test the boost sensor to prove it is faulty or not? If not, then the diagnosis is useless.

How many of the people who diagnosed the pump as being faulty were prepared to work on a no fix no fee basis? Ask them this and then judge the diagnosis on the answer they give you.

hi mr D yes i believe he did test the sensor and he has gauranteed me that there is no problem with fuel pump.
out of the other 3 diagnostics none of them would work for no fix no fee basis and even the main dealership would not even diagnose the jeep because it was an "import"but gave me name of garage in cavan dsi i think
and the crowd that were due to fix pump today wouldnt even give me fault number or code just said it was pump and1400 please

You as the owner of the vehicle cant be expected to be au fait with the technicalities of the system and its diagnostic procedures. I very much sympathise with your position. Its all too common.

It is possible the pump is faulty, but a big gamble fitting one to find out. Its much less of a gamble to try a MAP (boost) sensor first.
Try and source one as cheap as possible. Even a used one may do to check. Ask in a motor factors if they use “tech doc” (not all do) and if so give them the part number off the sensor to cross reference.

Would one of the recommended garages/specialists have been George Corry Engineering in Lanesboro? George does some of the best, probably the best actually, unit rebuilds in the country. Not sure if he covers the system fitted to your car or not but it would be worth a call to him to check it out.

I can remember what your symptoms were but if they were constant then it should be possible to test. Obviously if the symptoms are intermittent then the pump could test ok. If it comes to it and you are faced with having to fit a pump then get someone who can test the pump involved. Corry engineering or whomever is an agent for that system should have a unit that will allow them to run the pump and test it. This is done with the pump off the car. It would be possible for your regular mechanic to remove and refit the pump. The same specialist may want to see the fault before the pump is removed too.

    Good luck with it!

hi again and thanks mr D YES MORN WHEN I WENT TO MITSUBISHI MOTORS the guy got in and told me to take it out the road to see how it was running and it was perfect on way back i accelerated and it cut out went dead and engine light came on told me to leave it for hour and return when i did he informed me it was an import and he cudnt even do diagnostics so i asked him what did he think he gave me the number of man in cavan supposed to be v good also .So as u can imagine i was well pissed off so took chance and searched mechanics in laois got this crowd local enough to me and rang him asked could he do diagnostics went up and he plugged in his watever it is lol and even before he had it on he said it was compressin air in the system and that it could be a boost pressure sensor as they gave probs on this model but it wasnt really noticed because it was mistaken for a fuel pump problem (and i suppose if like me you leave it in to get repaired were the crowd simply puttin on new sensor and charging fuel pump replacing fees)so when he turned on diagnostics he showed me fault on screen also said bearing was gone on drivers side causing abs fault this was done without charge or commitment to me so i kinda think this guy is good at his job and is happy with any work that comes his way so ill get this sensor done and report back as soon as finished lol once again thanks for your input
