taking time out from a Phd

I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me whether it's possible to take a year or two out from a funded Phd. While I'm enjoying doing it I've decided it's not going to be my final career move as I want to go back and do primary teaching instead. it I get a place in the primary teaching postgrad next year I'll be a year and a half into my Phd. My ideal scenario would be if I could take a year and a half out from it to get my primary teaching qualification and then come back to finish it after I qualify as a primary teacher. Not sure how feasible that is in terms of my supervisor adn my funding. I really do want to finish my Phd so I'd def come back to it. I'd just be happier to have my other qualification first. If anyone could shed some light on this I'd be very grateful :)
